I'd really like to get rid of this #17 beast, so I'm wondering what you guys could suggest. I wouldn't mind getting one of those kits, but I really don't want to spend like 500 bucks right now.

I have the Lincoln 185...gas cooled torch.

i justgota parweld torch from welding depot. seemed kinda flimsy but work just like small #9 flex head. i paid 111.00 shipped for 12ft flex head water cooled. been welding with it ever since the #17 and #9 havent been plugged in yet. i also built a water cooled kit while i was at it too.

I use a water cooled 20 most of the time . Just bought a MT125 off ebay . Cool little torch . Supposed to fit the head in a 5/8 hole and be a 125amp torch . The 20 is a very nice size though .

ive got a weldcraft 24 air cooled torch. I bought that torch with 12.5ft lead, and a few different size gas lenses, collets, etc etc for under 130.

Ah the 24. Very nice size torch. I have a 24 with a flex head.

I buy pre-ground, pre-cut tungsten for it, since it's a pain to cut and sharpen a 1.5" piece of tungsten.

That's what I USED to do. It just got cubersome and pre-cut ain't that expensive.

Yes, the 24 or 24W for water-cooled. The 24 only handles 80 amps and the 24W handles 160 amps.

The 9 series torch is a good size too.

That pin torch is how Burns welds the inside of the stainless merge collectors. And the best way to sharpen short pieces of tungstonian (joke) is with one of those small drill holders.Or take a piece of 5/16 or 3/8 round alum. and drill a hole in the end of it in the lathe the same size as your tungston.About a 1/2 deep and slide the tungston in the hole and then you won't sharpen your fingers at the same time.
