5th gen front passenger brake hard line? is there an easier way?
long story short, the hard line from the ABS to the passenger side of my car burst and i need to replace it
. from what i can see from a quick peek, its gonna be a beotch to get it out.
has anyone replaced this before? do i need to remove the intake manifold? i need some pointers here. i couldnt find anything useful in the search, and the helmes doesnt touch on replacing the hard lines. PLEASE HELP!!

Did you get a new hard line from Honda?
I have bent my own brake lines out of straight pre-made lines from the auto parts store and removed my ABS, and I can tell you it's will be a MAJOR pain to get a new line in there with the engine and evrything still installed.
I would take off the intake manifold if you're not 100% confident and make sure you have flare-nut wrenches before you even touch any brake fittings.
Also remember it's going to take forever to bleed all the air out

im going to order the lines in the morning at honda. im kinda screwed there i guess. and i was pretty sure i would be taking the mani off. im fckd!
there is a little clip that holds a brake hard line and some other line, maybe power steering, on the firewall right behind the intake manifold. that clip somehow allowed water to seep under one of the rubber sleeves on the line and it started to rust. it was downhill from there.
and im weary of splicing that line with the amount of pressure in them. seems shady at best. i decided to bend my own line, so time go go get a set of flare end wrenches and a line bender

I suggest trying to bleed it a bit yourself once it is in place, but before you connect fittings to it.
Get a vac hose or something you can fit over the flare, and then have some sort of reservoir overhead so that gravity will take the fluid down.
Put a jar under the other open side and just wait a while for the fluid to work its way all the way there, and start dripping some, then connect it up and get the rest of the air out of it.
Good luck

Most auto parts stores don't carry metric brake line stock, but if you bring one of your old lines up to the store to compare, there is a standard size that will work. It just strips a bit easier than the metric size if you overtighten...

Tagging on to this thread... I recently installed my own SS lines but like an idiot didn't use a flare wrench like the Helm's said and stripped the nut on the front passenger side. I was assuming I would have to install a new hardline, but can I just get it cut and re-flared if my SS line is long enough? Sounds like a new hardline would be a PITA...
IIRC, Autozone in Texas has metric hard lines. A friend of mine had a problem with the clutch hardline at a track event a few weeks ago. Went to Autozone (IIRC) and bought a new hardline! M10x1.00 fittings on the ends!

In your case it sure would be a lot easier to just get a new nut and reflare the line. I would definately give that a try...see if you can remove the whole hard line and reflare it with it out of the car.

Wow, I haven't ever seen those
It makes sense though, with all the import cars everywhere....

OK, so I absolutely had to take the intake mani off. the line has rubber sheathing on parts of it, im guessing to prevent any rubbing, but water had gotten underneath that sheathing and rusted through with time. ill take a pic later.
I picked up an 8" piece of 3/16" line thats flared, so i cut a section out of my lines to replace and got the flare unions to match it up. it should work fine, im just hoping my system doesnt find another weak spot. but its worth checking autozone out if i can get metric, thanks for the tip.
i realized when i pulled out a section of the old line that bending a new one would be a ***** so i said screw it and im just going to repair the line. thanks again everyone.
and on a side note, dont EVER buy from autopartswarehouse.com. i wonder if blake will let me do an official flame on here?>
