Accord Maintenance reqd light

I don't know how to turn off my maintenance req'd light in my 98 accord... Any suggestions??

Push and hold the trip meter reset button while you turn on the ignition. Continue holding until the maintenance light turns off.

mine only comes on every 3k miles or so
when its time for a oil change
when was the last time it was changed?
