Default Turbo d16a6 help with TURBO

Ok to start I don't need any bashing. So lets start. I have 8:5:1 SRP Pistons, Eagle H Beam rods, JE Total Seal rings, ARP head studs, King Bearings.

The Head is not totaly finished, it is gasket matched ported and polished, stainless steel valves, looking for the rest, cam and springs.

I am looking to make around 400hp. I need help trying to find the correct turbo size.

I plan on trying to raise the RPM to 8000 or 8500.

I am also taking the block to get it sleeved this weekend. DARTON MID DECK!!!!

I know that fuel and tunning have a lot to do with it, but I am not there yet. Looking to buy the turbo first and then accomidate it as I build for next year.

Less than $1000 to spend on the turbo.

There are a ton of turbos for 400whp. I thought, based on our PM convo, that you were shooting much higher than that. Are you using this as a strip/street car?? What kind of powerband do you want?? Future potential for more power??

overkill for 400whp...that's attainable on a 57trim .63ar ~19psi

This CRX is drag strip purpose built. I would like to make more than 400hp, but it is a single cam. I know it can be done but I would also like it to last atleast a full year on the strip. As of now I average between 8-12 passes at the track. That is total for test and tune, and also competing.

if it is for drag you can use a .60\.63 a\r , that can give you the 400hp without too much lag

oh and was reading from your sig that you have and hks style bov, i don`t recommend that bov for high psi from personal experience ,, had it installed and at just 15 psi in the dyno the internal diaphram came apart when we fixed it and made another run it did the same and had a mayor boost leak ,, finished buying the real thing.

in my opinion a 57trim would work great it will definitely spool quicker with not to much lag.

if its a pure track car and your spinning it to 8500 then i'd reccomend going with a .82 a/r hotside with a .60 a/r compressor housing. the stage III/t04e 57 trim will support close to mid 400's at the wheels. I personally am going for about the same goal and i'm going to be running a t3 divided topmount with a holset hx35w. the nice thing about it is there is a huge array of turbine housings available. 12cm,14cm,16cm,18cm, and 21cm. the compressor flows 53lb/min.

The sc61's lag is not as bad as you think!

just get a standard 57 trim .63ar in an E cover...more than enough turbo for you. If you DO want more power in the future, now is the time to decide...

There are a few d16 making over 400+hp with the t3/t4 57 trim. This 57 trim turbo have proven itself on the d16.

I ran a 14.9 at 102 on 8psi. Was the motor built that threw the rod? Are you done with the d series? Do you have an answer for the quetion? What turbo do I need to get to achieve 400+hp?

If you are referring to me than no, motor is not built. Only internals was a cam, ARP headstuds, valve springs, and retainers. The rest was all bone stock. And I'm not done with the d-series yet. I'm working on a z6 over this winter. Hopefully I can get over the 400HP mark also but will settle for anything in the 350+HP range.

Here is the turbo I'll be using since I have it here already.

What are the sizes on your turbo? Do you know what trim it is, and where can I get one?

I'm guessing it's a 54 trim with the .70 ar compressor housing. Turbine is a stage 3 .63 ar turbine housing. I think you can find/get one at blaastperformance.com.

My bro in-law actually just bought one from him and it wasn't right. I mean it was shipped in a box that the local soccer team kicked around for while. Also he had a pic of a turbo that said Garrett on the Comp. housing. Blaast was asked if the turbo would say Garrett or Air Research on the Comp. housing. Blaast said that he (bro) would get exactly what was pictured. Air Research is what he got. Not that it matters, but he wanted a turbo that said Garrett. Not to mention all the metal shavings in the turine housing from being resurfaced. Oh, and the bent stud. Yes, I know nothing major, but again that's not the point. If you sell anything you should be true to your word. Blaast said that the studs were a bonus. So does anyone else sell them that are reliable?

What RPM does your turbo build full boost?

^ I think with this turbo I'll hit full boost somewhere in the 5k range. Should be a little similar to my 57 trim I had on my previous car before I sold it. But I'll never know for sure until it's on the car and running. But if I don't end up using this turbo I might just go for the Precision SC34 or SC44. Maybe even the SC61 too. I'll know for sure when spring time comes around.
