questions for h22 or h23 swap to f22b block and ecu
I read thru the FAQ first of all, and I just have some questions. I tried to PM the OP of the faq but he doesnt come on anymore.
My goal is for an easier engine for a turbo.. since no one makes f22b manifolds, i decided to go with a DSM one. I was told the DSM only fits on h22a heads or f22a heads.
Anyways, since the h22 or h23 is DOHC ( correct me if im wrong) how do you go about doing the timing belt? Do you use the h22 one? I did read about the changing of the gears in the water pump but thats confusing.
Also, which is easier to do, but still gain something? I don't really care if its dohc but i would like vtec.
What ecu should i run, the stock EX one for vtec? I also have an auto so that plays a factor too, I'll probably end up having to run AEM's FIC because i have to stay OBD2 for emissions.
When reading thru the FAQ, there seemed to be alot of stuff the guy did that I don't persoanlly understand. They said they had to make there own water pump.. why is that? What would happen if i didn't deck the block? would the car run like crap or would i be smashing valves?
Whats the deal with the water hoses? does the h23 match up with the f22b block
what headstuds should i use.. im assuming the h22 ones from ARP?
Basically, im just looking to be able to have some bolt on power and vtec, and then be able to turbo it... I'm just not sure which route to take.

i didnt read your whole post but from wat i did read you dont know what your doing so stop right now...... if you dont know weather an H22 and/or an H23 is dohc you really shouldent be trying to do this..... let alone anything related to a honda.
and also you would have hella time tryin to plug water passages in the head or driling the block, just save your *** and buy an H22, and yes they do make manifolds for F22bs..... you need to know a few things befor you start rippin your motor apart
also you need to be more specific wen your talking about engine codes cause if your talking about an F22b1/2 thats diffrent from an F22b.....
if your going to turbo your car either swap the motor for an H22 (sense you want vtec) or just keep wat you got and turbo dat...

LOL. yep. maybe you should have read my whole post then
by the way, seeing its a 96 lx its a f22b2. I never said i didn't know, i was wrong about the f20 being only a sohc, so i said correct me if im wrong, which i was not, you tool box.
And i don't want an h22 swap, if i did, i would have said so. The head and block are compatible, but being your a n00b, i can see you've never read thru any of the FAQ's so why don't you do that before trying to tell me what to do.
:edit: I also don't want to swap because i want the iron block not the h22 that i'd have to sleeve. and i want the h22 head for dohc and vtec, or if the h23 is easier to do i'll live without vtec. So i do know a majority of what im saying
i was asking questions for what i don't. This is a tech forum, not a ghetto wanna be forum.

actually after looking thru your car domain i think you might be able to help me more than some people on this site.
what dsm header is that? and what did you have to have done to it to fit? If i could swap the EX head and ecu for vtec, and then use the DSM header i have for a turbo that'd be sweet.

im going to tell you again.. you dont want to swap an H22 head on your F22 block... cause again like i said your either going to have to plug hte head or drill hte block..
either swap the motor or keep it how it is, the H22 sleves are fine..
or if you really wanna get into it, grab an F20b put lower compression pistons in it and turbo that, cause then you have dohc you have vtec and you have cast iron sleeves, only thing is like i said you gotta put low comp pistons in it cause its got wat 12:1 or 11:1 so on that turbos a no but lower it to 10:1 or 9:1 youll be happy boostin....
the manifolds from a 1g dsm, i used a drill press for it to fit my F22b (H23) ..
im not really sure about swappin the b1 head for the b2 cause of vtec i never lookd into it cause its a waist of time... honstly wit vtec your gonna get 10 maybe 15 hp so for the amount of work that you put into hte motor wat are you getting out of it? a week of your car being down for 15hp ... for vtec? it aint worth it, just turbo your b1 and be happy....
wat i recomend doing is replacing the headgasket puttin in head studs while your at it replace the water pump and timing belt, before you turbo it....
thats just a recomendation tho wit the headstuds you can bump your psi a lil more then with out so just think about that.... headstuds will make up for wat you dont got in vtec, and your helpin your car last by a new HG, WP and Tbelt..
save your back use wat you got..
and dont disrespect me, i kow wat im talking about... im just glad you realizd it
hope it helps

and to answer any of your questions that make sense
have sombody BUILD you a manifold..not to hard to do but I honestly dont think your looking hard enough for one
You do not want the P0a ecu to run with a turboed car?!
Third start saving for grenading transmissions

Maybe im not, i didn't think about looking into having someone build me a custom one, because i don't want to dish out $400+.

What ecu would you personally recommend then? People in forced induction told me that this ecu would be fine with AEM FIC
Third start saving for grenading transmissions
I could swap it if i want, i don't want to as this is going to be a DD and driven in the city alot. I have other toys for standards. A tranny cooler will be just fine, as long as i keep it under 220 whp which i plan to do.

I don't see the problem with this, but how about the euro h23 with vtec if i can find one?

I've heard differently about that, but if they won't go under the boost i want i might consider it.

I was actually thinking of going this route.. seems that i can get a complete swap for around $1000. What about that head bolting up.. or is it alot different too?
the manifolds from a 1g dsm, i used a drill press for it to fit my F22b (H23) ..
Same manifold i have, off a talon i believe. You just had to redrill the holes? I can do that, i have a drill press in my shop.

Hehe, i just love vtec. Its not a problem for me really.. i planned on keeping my car off the road for the winter anyways. its a b2 btw

Timing belt and wp were jsut replaced.. maybe 2000 miles ago.

Now, say i do swap the EX head because i think my friend has one thats useable, and i get the ecu and swap them, i would just have to redrill the DSM manifold for the bolts for this head. I have to see if theres a difference between the timing belts or not and all that before i decide to or not. It may be more of a hassle than its worth.
