Default Alternator Question

Has anybody tried replacing the collector ring brushes on your alternator? Is it worth it or should i just get a new alternator?

I have a 00 civic ex if that makes a difference to anyone...

If you've got the time and know how, it would be worth it to just replace the brushes. A rebuild shop would probably turn the armature to remove any rough spots or gouges which would make the brushes last longer, but you can kind of do the same thing with carful use of some emory cloth.

In summation... Replace brushes, yes. A shop rebuild would be better but cost more. A rebuilt from the auto parts store is the last option. I never had any luck for more than 18 months with those.
