swap a b16 or rebuild d16
my 93 civic ex has a d16z6 in it i was gonna turbo it but... i can here the rods starting to knock a little bit, bearings worn motor has 184000. i am thinkin of swapping in a b16 because this is jus my dd. is a b16 a good dd motor?? i have about $600 saved right now so im not sure wut my options are. ive been researching for awhile now. the b16 pretty much is plug and play right?? are the axles the same from the d16 tranny?? thx guys
well i got a 98 ex with 187xxx miles and on d16y8(no knocking, smoking etc)
im pieceing a b16 to go in in the future incase my y8 decides to go
and plus im really tired of sohc

do i even have to change the shift linkage for a b16?? most importantly the wires are plug and play and the motor mounts line up perfect right?? thx guys
No your axles won't fit, well the shorter one will but the long axle wont snice b-series motors use a half shaft. nor will your mounts, and shift linkage fit. and with 600 bucks theres no way you'll be able to swap a b16 in. your best bet is to rebuild the single slamer or save up a little more and find a junkyard LS swap.
srry im not really sure wut the ls is. is it a b18??? if it is then the ls swap bolts in right?? i heard a lot of ppl saying ls swap is the easiest. thx man.
yeah an ls is just refering to and integra ls so a b18b or b18a b18b would be a better bet since its newer. and well it's still a b-series so your going to need mounts, shiftlinkage, and axles but if you can usually find full swaps for under $1000

will the stock b18 mounts bolt into my mounts on the chassis?? or u mean i need to get special mounts. and could i still use the drive side axle?? thx man
a complete b16 obd1 swap will cost u around $2000 dollars and u can not reuse d series axles..shift linkage and mounts..
and if i were u..i wont bother to rebuild d16z6 engine.i will save up for a b16a swap.and if u know how to do engine swaps, it will save u from $500~$700 in labor.and yes b16a is pretty much drop in , plug and play.

If you get a changeover it should come with the mounts, axels, ecu, wiring harness, and shift linkage.
If you have $600 there is no way you can rebuild or swap as others have stated. Too much will be involved in terms of parts let alone the cost of labor for tearing apart a motor.
Save up as much as you can until you absolutely must either repair the z6 or swap it out.
If I were you I would find a running D16z6 long block in great condition and attemp the xfer yourself.

im not paying someone to rebuild my d16z6.... im kinda leaning towards finding another motor to rebuild with low comp pistons, eagles rods and that such. so when my turbo comes, itll be ready for it.
If you indeed have rod knock, how much longer do you think the motor is going to last before it needs to be replaced?
If you go to buy another motor to start a full turbo build are you going to have enough money to fix the z6 if it goes out halfway through the build?

the knock is jus barely starting. i jus found a d16z6 with low comp pistons already for 200. it has a knock so prolly rod bearings but... only has 400 on rebuild. sounds good to me. how about u? jus wut im looking for.
