Default 87 CRX hf...how hard to swap in a D16a6?

I found a CRX hf for like $750. The interior isn't bad and either is the body. Its just got a bad paint job (spray painted hahaha). The motor sucks too. I am swaping a B18 into my 91 Civic Si so i will have an extra D16a6 just lying around. I was wondering how hard it would be to drop it into the rex? First of all... do the mounts match up? Also, would it just be easiest to just strip everything off the CRX and just run completely new wires and everything sence I have to run wires for fuel injection and all that fun stuff any way? Just wondering what I need to do and what is advisable to do.
Thanks for the help

It doesn't bolt in. The mounts are completely different. Not to mention adding the fuel injection. Not worth the time and money it would take to do it.

What are you talking about? Are you a moron? Its a D series motor. It will bolt right up, and the HF is MPFI not DPFI like you were thinking... so it will be real easy. You will want to run an Si ECU, and you will need new axles, hubs and knuckles... and you should be set. Everything else will work. All D series work, and whoever said this doesn't work, how did you even get a ZC in your car, do you even know what your talking about? I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, but you shouldn't post something for the sake of posting it... this is a tech forum, if you don't know what your talking about, you have no reason to post on the subject.

If you have anymore questions on the swap, email me at Skunk2ner@aol.com

Hmmm. I've heard that you can't use all d-series engines in the 1st gen CRX's due to the mount locations in the engine bay. (Ie you can't use a black top ZC, you have to use a D16A1), and so on. just get a D16A1, that'll bolt right up, plus it's Dohc.

Hey jackass! The 87 HF is a carbed motor. I think you are the ******* moron! The only D-series motors that will bolt in to a 1st generation CRX are the D16A1 and 1st generation ZC and even that requires some modification to the front mount.

My suggestion to you is to quit posting and start reading!!

And yes you are a dick!!

I apologize, I didn't see the 87 in the title. I thought it said 89 HF... chill out.

Now boyz, I appriciate you trying to get me the right information, but there is no reason to get mean...either of you. HeHe.

So anyway...I would prefer to stick with the D16a6 becuase I already have it, even though it is SOHC. So with that said, will the mounts line up? Or is it just more work that its worth and I should stick it out for a while until I find a good 2nd gen. CRX?

Thanks

Putting the D16A6 into the 87 HF is going to be enough work that you'll wish you'd have put something bigger in for your efforts. Lot's of wiring. The only easy thing is that the electric fuel pump mounting is there, you'll just be on your own hooking it in line. None of the motor/tranny mounts will line up, you'll have to fab your own. IMO, unless you're going with ITB's the 87 HF isn't the best platform to start with. 88+ Civic/CRX's can be had for less $.

Another option would be either the D16A1 or 1st generation ZC with a carb set up. That would actually be pretty sweet.

By the way sorry about flying off the handle earlier.

This one's on me

Hmm... i would say if u going to go it... u should consider the zc swap it is a bolt in and has 125 hp. and the rods are a big stronger for boost.... just cant get cams and stuff....but...if going to go with the a6.....i would say first u need someone that can weld and make u some motor mounts..get the motor and tranny .. and axles from a 88-95.. will work .. all the same.. SOHC... then u need the spendals off any 86-89 acura interga .... some will tell you, u cant run those axles. and they are full of **** i done it for 3 years now.. then put just the motor and tranny in car..hanging... then put that axles and everthing somewhat together as it would be normal.... that should center the motor..... or going to have a WELDER ON SITE.. and faborcate some mounts.... it is easy.. on the back mount.. i weld a strunt tower bar in.. just real low by the tranny in the back... then made a mount off that bar to the tranny.. then where the battery is stock.. i welded a plate there ,lined up with tranny....... and relocated the driver front motor mount..... u used the 91 mount and fabed. a mount to my frame from 91 mount.... ask all your question i have done it all

god, if you are going to fabricate something like that you might as well make it worth your time and get some power out of it. no offense to you d series guys, but d series is not the way you want to go for reliable HP. if you are dead set on a swao for your crx then get a b series, hell hasport even has a mount kit for it.
