1995 EX Accord Oil Leak
Well i bought this accord for 2K its clean no rust since im in Wisconsin, car came from Florida, it has 185K miles ye kinda alot, well i test drove it and i really liked it engine is clean, cheked oil n it was at second line, so i bought it well after like two day of driving it i checked da oil level n it was lower i know its not burning cuz their is no smoke wut so ever from exhaust, so i cheked underneath car and man sure enough what i didnt want to see was their oil leakin, when da car is off really doenst leak, it leaks when car is on seems to b coming on top of da exhaust manifold, i tought it was jus gonna b da Oil fliter lose, but no all da area aound the axle, oil pan seems to have oil also some on da timin belt cover on bottom, any ideas what gasket can b bad, how much could it cost to get it fixed, i really wanna keep this car dont wanna sell it, i luv accords hondas in general, also is this a hard fix cuz i know gaskets are cheap but labor is what kills it, or should i jus sell da car...Thankz in advance to anyone that helped.
Wow, that really hurt my brain to read that. You might want to invest in some periods and make some sentences out of that.
Anyway, on to the subject. If it's right above your exhaust manifold, it's most likely your valve cover gasket. They're not hard to replace. Just get a Haynes manual and read what it tells you to do. Also, to make sure, look around your valve cover gasket and see if it's a little wet with oil or if the area around it is dark. If it is, it's most likely leaking. If it's dripping from the bottom of the car, also check the oil pan gasket. With that many miles, it's not hard to believe that both of them would be leaking. My pan gasket on my 97 is leaking and I've got 121k. Been leaking since I bought it with 96k on it.

lol ye it even hurt myself, lol mybad i just wrote it all at once didnt pay attention to periods. Ye well its dark out already so imma check it out more tommorow. I really appreciate your help. I was think maybe oil pan but their is oil on top of oil filter so dont now of coming from oil pan but may b too. Going to check it out better tommorow and will keep posting.Again sorry for my huge sentence lol.
mine is leaking from the camshaft seal and since that area has to be opened i was planning on just replacing the water pump, cam seal and timing belt(since its probably covered with oil). i've never done this before and would like to know if any of you think its wise to attempt to do it myself with a haynes manual or just bring it to a shop since timing is involved. thanx in advance.
hmmm cam shaft seal. just so i can check my car where is their oil under your car. Is it all over oil filter, and axles as well as on top of manifold. Just curious so i can check out my car.
it is leaking right below the timing belt cover very close to my driver side axle but it isnt leaking on it. thats about it, i didnt see oil anywhere else.
OOOo ye i gotta really go under my car tommorow check it out. Mines seems to be leaking right on top of where the manifold ends where da exhaust continues, right on the middle. All i can see with out lifting car up. You know if the cam shaft seal is hard to replace.

Since it seems to be a pretty fast leak, leaking noticeably over a two day period, maybe try spraying engine cleaner on there and cleaning the oil up, drive it around for a day and then jack it up and look under it again, see where the oil is come from. That will give you a much better idea of where the oil is coming from since it seems like there is a lot of oil everywhere making it hard for you to tell where exactly it's coming from.
you are at 185K and unless a honda dealer changed the timing belt I would recommend you do that ASAP. The kit comes with the retainer for the seal

I wouldn't attempt it with a haynes manual, just not good enough for this job.
I would invest in a Helm manual, it's pricey but more than worth it. It's less to buy the Helm, special tool for crank pulley, parts and do it yourself rather than taking it to the shop. That manual pays for itself many times over, trust me.
But if you dont want to, take a look at my timing belt how-to in the FAQ. That will show you the steps taken to do the timing belt and water pump on my old 95 Accord EX. I didn't show how to replace the cam seal or crank seal cause someone else did it and I was probably doing something else at the time, but they aren't hard to replace.
It should only take a few minutes each to replace the cam seal and crank seal. What I do is take a scratch awl (can be found at sears) and poke it through the face of the seal, it only had a thin metal ring there so it pokes through easily. Then I just pry the oil seal out making sure to not scratch the shaft or head/block. To install, coat the outside of the new seal with a thin layer of oil and get it into place by hand, then take a large socket like an axle socket and tap the new seal into place. I have pictures of when I did this to my Civic so if you need pictures just let me know, but I did post them somewhere else in the Accord forum so maybe a quick search would turn them up.
