What tool do people use to cut the plenum off of a stock IM? I'm thinking a band saw... If that IS the tool people use... Which one and what blade? TIA!

i always used a vert band saw and made some sort of jig to bolt the head flange to and slide it accross the blade for an even 90deg cut. a quick pass on a mill or even just a belt sander made it good to fab on. As to what blade, you can get away with using a steel blade, but it will take longer than if you used an aluminum blade. the difference is that steel blade will have more teeth, and they will me smaller. aluminum would have longer teeth, and you can run the speed faster. and finally wood would have even longer, less teeth and you can really run it fast.
during times when i did not have a band saw, i used a sawzall. simply use like 6in c clamps and clamp the head clange to a table. then use the saw and hack it off.
its actually faster than the band saw. Oof corse your cut will not be even, and youll need to spend much more time with the sander or cut off wheel to make all the runers even.
if times are real tough, just put one foot on the plenum and hack at it with a hack saw. its a bitch, but it works.

Any cutting i have to do on intake manifold I use a vertical bandsaw, 1/2" -18tpi blade and 1400fpm... cuts great!
clean it up on the belt sander and you're good to go!

I just did mine this weekend and cut it off with the sawsall and then brought it to my friends work and used the mill to straighten them out
no matter how I have ever cut them I have always finnished them on the mill

Any saw that will cut wood will cut aluminum. But one of those craftsman vertical wodd bandsaws with 8 or 6 teeth per inch cuts alum.like butter.
