Default GSR intake with butterflies removed?

I bought a B18C to replace the engine in my CRX. Since I will be using a PR3 ECU and the Hasport Si to SiR sub-harness, I will only be able to control one of the intake butterflies. I have been told that the solution is a Skunk2 intake manifold, as it has only one butterfly. It would be an easy solution, but not cheap. I am cheap. I found an OEM intake that has been ported and the butterflies removed. Does anyone know the drivability price for such a set up? Big time fuel consumption? backfiring? high idle? Erratic idle? ?????

Honda put those there for a reason, but I am not certain that they are that important. Has anyone tried this? Please let me know what you think.

the butterflies are there for low end torque.if you had the skunk manifold,it helps a liitle to pick up the slack.I personally think without the dual runner set-up working,it would creat abit of turbulance in the intake plenum.

The GSR intake is bad ***. Since your car is light you don't need to much low rpm torque. You can modify the GSR intake by removing the port openings of the "Hat" portion. Get some big cams and good springs and your ready to fly.

True, on a light car, you might not notice the diff from not having the primary butterflies engaged. Honda designed this mani to allow low end tq and then the secondaries to open up the airflow at higeher rpm. You will not seen any dramatic fuel consumption or anything. The dual stage, however, does strange the IM at the vtec x/o point... so disengaging the primaries would give you a bit of HP up there.

The cheapest and most effective solution would be to keep the GSR IM and use an adjustable RPM module from Summit (or wherever) to activate the IAB solenoid at 5500 RPM.

e-mail me if you need more info.

Thanks, for the input, guys. If I were to disengage the primaries and wire up the secondary, when would it open? How much pain would be involved to hook up something to trigger one of the butterflies and which butterfly should I control with which? Help! I am confused!
