Default Al Season Coolant?

What type of coolant are you guys running in your builds? I have my head off and will be going back together soon and wondering what everyone was using. Never had an problem with the 50/50 prestone.

I use deionized water, helps prevent electrolysis, and redline water wetter as a rust inhibitor, it doesn't get too cold here in the winter and when it does, my car is garaged so i don't have to worry about freezing temps. Car runs at 190 degrees F at idle and about 182 while cruising on the freeway.

I would be more concerned with water pump lubrication than rust inhibitor, sounds similar to the tempatures I run on 50/50. I am going to check my logs to see exactly what temps I do run. Either way I do not have a heated harage for winter so it needs to be Anti-freeze, just concerned on what brands were commonly used.

During the fall and spring I run shelf premix honda blue antifreeze.

In the summer I use about 3/4 distilled water with the rest being honda antifreeze mixed with redline water wetter.

I live in Canada and Prestone is commonly used as well as stock types of antifreeze for vehicles that are winter driven or stored at a 50/50 mix. In my experience, as long as you use a decent quality antifreeze with the proper distilled (not tap) water mix, you'll never have any problems no mater what you do with your car or the climate you drive it in.

I think any antifreeze that is silicone or silicate free will do wont it?

I think most people won't know or care about differences in antifreeze performance or quality. Prestone, Peak, Sierra or generic auto part store brand antifreeze will probably all perform the same if mixed equally. Main difference is the additive package that will make them go the distance. Corrosion inhibitors are very important and will deplete fairly quickly. Coolant is inexpensive, if you stick to replacing it every two years and use distilled water in you mix you will probably be fine.

I've been running Redline water wetter for a while now and haven't had a problem with it during the summer or fall months. Usually where I live in Cali there aren't completely freezing temperatures so I will have to see what happens.
