Default Torqing Cam Gears

I believe according to Skunk2 they want to to go 30 ft lbs on them along with some loctite. And they specifically say not to use an impact on them. How are you supposed to torque them though ? Anyone have any tricks on holding them when tightening the cam gear ? I would think a vise with a rag around the cam would be very bad so I really am not sure ? Or is using an impact gun ok if your careful ?

get them on as tight as you can now, then once everything is together and the timing belt is on, use something to hold the gear still, and then torque them

Tighten them by hand, set the timing, install the belt and tensioner, use a crankpulley holder, push the timing belt against the cam gear with one hand and torque with the other.

Pushing on the belt isn't enough, like I said I recommend holding the car gear.

Holding the belt is more than enough for 30 lb-ft. Whatever you do don't go jamming screw drivers or whatever into your cam gears.

never ever use an impact gun to install or remove cam gear bolts, that can easily break the cam.
I just put the gear on hand tight, install the timing belt, and then line it up and put allen keys through the spray bars through the cam holes so they are both locked and that is easy enough.

Nail a chunk of old timing belt to a 2x4 and use that to hold the cam gear.

lol. Have you seen my POS hybrid engine? It has less than $1000 invested and it makes 200whp/183tq. It's totally ghetto. If you want to go get some $200 snap-on wrench be my guest. I spent my money on another car not tools.

Ha, Ive heard about it, and might of read about the first page of it, but that is way past my current skill level.

But hey I know about these tools being exspensive. I just did my swap the other week, and spent about 500 bucks on diffrent tools. They get exspensive. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by PirateMcFred &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

I like to wrap them in rags.

Risking jumping teeth versus overconfidence. You make the decision.

30 Ft-LBS?

Wowzers... the ones I use have specs to use only 15 FT-LBS. Just in case my torque wrench isn't accurate, put it at 16 and it works fine.
