Some people state the the JDM D15B Vtec has a more agressive cam.Its basically almost the same! The D15b has 130hp its a like a mini me D15 Block w/D16z6 head!People state to be better than a D16Z6

Yes !! All d series motors are swappable! **** come to think about thats the engine i had before on my 94 Civic Lx 4door then i swapped in this engine
!! Its the bomb! It looks like you live in cali like me ! If your aroubd the l.a area i know where you can get it for about $400 or less **** i bought mine for 350 i think but i know for sure it was lee than 400!! Let me know
The only thing you will have to do is wire up Vtec to the ECU but there is a write-up here at HT

That depends! I think its 350-400 for the complete motor intake manifold injectors etc.And 500 with the whole engine and tranny ! From what i believe they had some D15B trannies which have the LSD.I believe from the last time i went there w/my dad he said they wre 500 complete w/tranny
You could use your old tranny but they suck cuz of the long as gears!
Im swapping mines out as we speak with a S20 Si tranny! So you could keep your old one or just swap it in complete with its tranny, thats would i would do like that you dont end up doing it in the lon run like me

Yours is the only one I read.
He's not talking about the B7, which has like 10-15hp less, not 30.
He's talking about the JDM D15B, which is pretty much the JDM equivalent of the USDM sold D16Z6.
What's the difference? The JDM D15B has a slightly more aggressive cam and 1 deciliter (100ml) less. They average out to about the same power though and if you were to pit one against each other in the same chassis/weight the winner would be based on the driver. The JDM D15B due to its more aggressive cam makes up for the 1 deciliter disadvantage so it balances out quiet nicely. Neither gets better gas mileage, neither is "noticeably" more powerful than the other. Like I said, a race between the two in the same chassis would result in whichever driver is better and that would be the sole contributor (assuming both engines are in the same condition).
PS:
I got 35.3mpg going home yesterday in my Y8 doing 80 the whole way. For about 30 miles on the thruway it was a total whiteout and I had to feather the gas like crazy b/c the car was sliding all over the place, so it's not like it was on cruise control or anything :-\.
D series MPG = ownage.

Mechanically there is a few things that come to mind...one big one being the pistons. If you really want some info on the D15B check out this site:
http://www.d-series.org/forums...17840
It will give some insight on what can be interchanged and what is it's own stuff.

Bringing this thread back..
I just got a 92 Civic Si in which the original D16Z6 was blown and now has a JDM D15B. My first question is how come the valve cover says VTEC-E? I though my engine was VTEC and the VTEC-E was some USDM D15 on the civic HX.
Also, when I go to buy plugs, dist. cap, plug wires, fuel filter, and all that tune-up stuff at some place like Autozone which engine do I tell them its for? I am pretty sure they don't have any JDM engines in the computer.

they might've gotten a valve cover from a VTEC-E... tell us the engine number that is right next to the tranny. You might be confused on which motor it is.
just tell them its a 1.5 l and u have a civic, all 1.5's are D's and all D's are interchangeably.
