I don't think many people are aware that P.R. was the "Pionner and Grandfather" of import drag racing.

Imagine a NOPI event in PR. It will take a whole day for the modified qualifying rounds

And yes...P.R. racing is off the hook.

Hell...Any island that drag races imports is off the hook.
When we raced in ARUBA 2 months ago. The track stayed open till 5AM!!!!!

puerto rico rocks, more hardcore racers per capita than anyplace on the planet, but the first import drag racers might have been the vw guys here in so cal, starting back in the mid-60's or so.

when did the first drag strip open in puerto rico?

Considering that 100% of their cars are imports, that would make sense.

I just recently visited PR and had the pleasure of attending and covering the national mazda day of puerto rico at Ponce speedway and I felt right at home there. Pics should be on Tunerzine.com? just waiting to be hosted.

I also brought back a newspaper from PR and they dedicate a section just like sports or world news to Drag Racing, once I stop being so lazy I'll scan it.

The Ponce track is nice. Its right on the beach. Right now they are planning on expanding the track. Its a 1/4 mile track but the 1/4 mile is inly use with street cars. The PRO cars run the 1/8 mile due to being short at the stop end. They are going to be expanding the top end so PRO cars could run the 1/4. The track I beleived is co own or co sponsor by MecTech Ins.

PR has 5 racetracks

By the way there is a big event tonight in Ponce
Pica motorsport vs Chivy King

Carolina Speedway tonight
Thanksgiving extreme shootout - street cars

Manati Racetrack
Import Nitros National

Salinas Speedway
Pro Modified Nationals

Anasco Speedway
Cant find schedule
