Default Crackling/Hissing sound on cold start up.

This is getting really annoying. About once or twice a week...for a month and a half now, right when I start my S up there's a very loud Crackling/Hissing sound. Always on a cold start, right when the engine is turning over(right as I press the Engine Start button), and it happens very randomly. My roommate is a mechanic, and every time he's available to stand next to my car during start up it never happens. The noise is definitely coming from the front of my S...Does anyone have any ideas as to what this may be? I'm completely stock...Also, the car seems to run perfectly fine afterwards...Thanks for any help/opinions.

K Mr. Noob heres your answer.

That cracking and hissing noise is an air compressor it turns on as soon as you turn on your car the time that its actually on changes depending on the outside temp. This air compressor is for emissions. So your car is allright and theres nothing wrong next time do a search this topic has been covered 2189156184 times cause you noobs dont search and its super annoying.

Other then that enjoy the car is fukin sick.

well the noise definitely doesn't sound alright, it's loud as hell...and this is the first time it's been happening since 4 1/2 years of ownership...so I've been through the seasons with this car...I can almost guarantee you it's not the air compressor....and calm the expletive down, go change your tampon

Dood you know what it could be. The starter sometimes dosent let off the flywheel when its super cold it happend to me this morning. It happens randomly. I have been trying to find out how to fix this but no luck yet. But try this cause it works for me sometimes when you turn your ignition on wait a good 10 seconds b4 starting the car. Once I started doing that it happens less frequently. And sorry about the earlier post the way you described the noise I though you were talking about the air compressor.

k i'll try the 10 second thing, thanks....but no problem about before...if it was the air compressor, then yes I'd be a noob all the way lol...if you figure it out I'd really appreciate the help...The sound is really worrying me cause I love this car ...this is actually the first thing to come up since I've owned it...talk about bullet proof
