as far as max lift, they should be fine with pro1's. not sure what seat pressure skunk2 recommends though.

Skunk2 will recommend the pro series valvesprings with their retainers.

of course they will recommend their own products. i don't think the OP mentioned using s2 retainers though.

after hearing about retainer failures on here, it makes one weary.

the skunk2 retainers do chip around the edges. and youll want to run the pro springs not the tuner line. I havent been able to find the supertech spring rates online.

The valve springs for larger street cams generally need to be softer at seated pressure since as the large lobe of the cam compresses the spring the pressure will increase.

if you are running stiff springs with these cams it will chew up the rocker arms and cam lobes because of the high lift lobes both in and out of vtec. the non vtec lobes are very large and stiff springs will chew them up.

Have you seen this in person with the newer gen pro series retainers ?
I have not.

I cant say if they fixed the problem or not. I havent seen it in the new ones. but people need to do the research on what spring rates they have before switching cams.

I had a bad experience with rev valvetrain recently. It turns out rev released a valvespring for b series motors that can only be used on cams under 11mm lift and you need to run rev flat seat locators as well.

which to me is stupid because you cant even run them with type r cams. the spring rates are way to stiff and they coil bind at 11mm lift. with type r cams being 11.5 mm lift I had issues and it screwed up my cams and rocker arms. and the rev valves mushroomed out at the tips.

supertech stuff is 70lbs or 85 lbs seated depending on which one you have. which means its stiffer then what skunk made for the cams.....you may have valvetrain wear problems

Do you think the wear is going to be worse on the pro1s or the pro2s. I'm assuming the more agressive cam will be harder on the valvetrain. I might just hold off on teh pro2 and try the pro1s to be safe. I'm also looking at another thread questioning the pro2s if you have +1mm valves. V2V clearances might be an issue.

pro 2s have more lift so the spring pressure will go up as the spring compresses. it will wear more. look at how much softer the skunk springs are then the supertech or rev.

So running these Tony...

Supertech SPR h100 DR
85 lbs @ 33.5 seated
266 @ 14mm open .551 inch
15mm max lift .590 inch
18.5 mm coil bind

...would one need to worry about wear on a set of PRO1 Cams?

I was recommended to go with the heavy Supertech springs today by a head porting facility and now it looks like that was the wrong recommendation?

I'm running supertech (not sure which ones) with ITRs. No problems to date.
