d16a6 to d16z6 swap questions!!
Hey guys, great site. SOOO much info on this site its not even funny. With all the research I have done I am still left with a few questions. But first Ill give you guys a little back ground info
CAR: 1991 civic SI d16a6 originally, whoops, buddy forgot to add oil to the high KM motor, boom. Sells it back to me for cheap.
SWAP: d16a6 to d16z6
PARTS: I have both complete motors, No engine harness for the z6 though, no z6 ECU.
PLANS: I plan to use the SI tranny, with the 5g clutch, pressure plate and flywheel, they are in great condition. but so is the 4g ones as well has less then 10 000km on it, I installed it myself. the 5g is better, right?
intake mani. Using the a6 Intake mani will be easier because I am using the a6 harness... right? I tried hooking up the a6 harness on the z6 and a few of the plugs work but It seems like a lot of them are totally different and I have no clue about any of the harness stuff. damn.
WELL?: As right now, both motors have trannys off. The harness is off of the a6, and the cars engine bay is a ******* nightmare!
WALLET CONTENTS: 4 cents and coupon 50 cents off rootbeer. I need to do this cheaply as possible.
Which is why I dont want to convert to obd1 if possible. I believe I can acomplish this by using the a6 harness on the z6 motor and hooking up the vtec with an rpm switch.
I think I will go with the 5g clutch and pressure plate as they seem to be brand new pretty much. This is OK with the si tranny from my research.
The engine harness is a big problem for me right now, I really have no clue about any of this. The a6 harness has a few plugs that work but most of them dont. Can I solve this problem by using the a6 intake manifold?
I need to do this cheap as possible for now, I will convert to obd1 with ecu and harness later. But for now I can run it on the a6 ecu, and still having vtec buy wiring it up to an rpm switch.. right??

You'll have to use the a6 distributor if staying OBD0 along with the 1 wire o2 sensor off the a6. Everything else sensor wise should be fine (unless i'm forgetting something).
I don't know what problems you're having with the z6 manifold but there should be some info on someone that has swapped theirs on here. I have a y8 manifold on my car so I doubt the z6 is much different.

lmao....did the same **** wen i was broke...d15b + 91 ex + broke *** hell = brokechanic rig.....i had the 2 motors out i took all the sensors off the a6 ( one by one ) and started putting them on the D15b ( same as a z6 ) then i swapt the intake mani of the a6 and bolted it 2 the newer motor...the tricky part is using ur a6 dizzy wit the newer motor..it wont work sooo ___still broke as hell__i did this...it wont look nice but i never had a problem wit it...and the rest is easy ....for ur cable tranny use ur a6 flywheel and clutch set up....hope this helps...
Hey thanks for the replies guys really appreciate it! lilsicsoul is that just a custom mounting bracket? I have a z6 distributor so I dont need to do that...
After more research. I am going to use the z6 mani, I think im just gonna look for a complete z6 harness. It would be the easiest. Then all i need is the p28 ecu and I can make my own conversion harness so thats all good.
UPDATE: I got the transmission on today!! expletive it felt soo good. I used the 5g clutch and pressure plate because It has more surface area and the springs are bigger and stiffer then the 91 so in sense wont it have a little bit more response?
Im excited as ****. Right now im just looking for a harness then this bitch is ready to drop in and the real fun begins. Hooking up my engine. I need to grab a flick of the hack job these guys did to everything.
1st Didnt drain any fluids
2nd didnt label ANYTHING
3rd broke the fan somehow
4th and most importantly either the speedo cable or the tach cable they didnt unplug. ******* idiots.... so I gotta get a new one of those or to my understanding no vtec

i didnt read through the entire thread.... i know my head will explode with cheap/halfassed answers.
if you are staying OBD-0 (which i dont recommend) use a pr3 or pw0 ecu and not the pm6 with an rpm activated switch.
or, just convert to obd-1, use the p28, and contact ryan at rywire for a harness.
if you're on a budget.... too bad. you'll shortly blow up the new motor too because you cheaped out on parts. save up and do it correctly.... $500 isnt that much man, it really isnt.

Yea I know, lol.
I can make my own conversion harness which will make converting even cheaper.. The only things I need to buy now are the z6 harness and ecu and oh yea 02 sensor lol.
So it looks like im going obd1 boys!!

Just buy one off ebay they go for 40$ i got one for 31$ shipped and work great. Dont do the wiring u might expletive **** up and then it will take for ever to figure it out. The harnesses are cheap just buy one.
They are but I lack credit cards.
I have the assistance of one of the best wire guys in town, so it wont be a problem!
I have been looking they are cheap enough, but money saved is money earned.

Same experience. I'm with him!
I spent $40 on the conversion harness, $60 new DENSO O2 sensor and $20 on Mobil 1 oil. Oh, and $2. on heatshrink tubing. The engine and tranny I received as payment for a job I did. I has everything fresh and new, along withe the stg2 exedy clutch. I think not much is needed if you already have the engine. Cheers

If you are converting to OBD1, I have a Z6 dizzy. $53 shipped.

Hi u cant use a obd1 engine wiring harness because the rest of the harness wount plug in
so u have to use your obd0 harness and just buy a obd1 conversion harness which will plug in your obd1 p28 ecu and the u can plug in your obd0 harness in to that that is the obd1 conversion just look it up on ebay they go for 40 or so.

if you use your a6 intake and exhaust manifold, your only wiring you'll need to modify is your coolant temp sensor and add in your wires for your v-tech cylinoid. then grab your handy chilton to repin to run p28 and plug in the z6 dizzy and if you started at 10am by 7pm you should be hiting the streets with a new motor. or if you choose to stay obdo you can run with a screwy looking dizzy(which is ok), and wire your v-tech and add a v-tech controller so u don't lean out. not all that hard or expesive either way!
really? thanks for the info
What does the exhaust manifold(headers) have to do with it?
I have a z6 dizzy on the motor. I went and looked for a z6 harness today this guy told me there was one but it wasnt there.
