I don't think its a trend, its style that has existed in Japan for years and years. I get a kick out of it.
A lot of Bosuzoku cars are styled after FIA Group 5 and I believe old JGTC cars.

This is Honda-Tech. You're not going to get anything without attitude from total strangers.
Anyways, I kinda like oldschool cars done up in that style, but such as many styles not in as extreme a fashion. Good to get inspiration, not so good to totally try and copy or even totally blow out. Those 6' front splitters and truck exhausts don't really tickle my fancy, but I do like the look of an oldschool car with some good fender flares and a DIY, plain lip kit.
