Default How do I delete ABS?

My girlfriend has a 95 EX with ABS. And I think the whole ABS unit is starting to go bad. it makes horrific noises and the brakes don't really work like they should. So I told her i'd try to take it off for her.

What exactly do I need to delete it?

If you think the ABS is malfuntioning, just take out the fuses.

I wouldn't do that, If I were you I would actually cough up the money for a abs unit, or try the junkyard. Its there for a reason so just fix it.

Honestly your braking system is set up to have it so keep it in the car and fix it properly dont just "jerry rig" the thing. If you do that and something goes seriously wrong and your GF ends up wrapped around a tree I dont think you will feel like it helped. No quick fixing it only leads to more problems down the road believe me...

Just fix it. It's so much more worth your time. As I understand it, if you want to remove it, you're going to have to replace more parts than if you want to fix it.

I don't know about you but I care about my girlfriend so much that I removed the airbags from her car.

Besides, it's not a race car, she's better off with the ABS.

i saw a guy lock up the brakes on his camry the other day, i laughed harder then i had in quite some time.

this has nothing to do with your question, but i hope to someday have the chance to laugh at you or your girlfriend.

LOL!

I know right, god forbid people used some common sense .

She's not ******* autocrossing with the car, pick up an ABS unit from a junkyard and slap it in.

EDIT:

And to answer your question, you delete ABS by hitting "Backspace" three times.

How did I know this thread would turnout like this.

I forgot when every civic came with ABS because its so damn important.

If you need ABS then you need to learn how to drive.

So what your saying is not to fix something properly because you dont feel like coughing up the money?!?! If you arent willing to cough up money to properly fix a vehicle you shouldnt own one....

its a ******* civic! lol and what I was saying is, the car will still be fine and not really function any different under normal circumstances. I personally hate the way ABS feels anyway.

I never said she or anyone needs ABS. Hell, I wouldn't want ABS on my '98 EX.

I'm just saying, to properly remove it would take more effort than properly fixing it.

thank you. plus if you are stupid enough to lock up the brakes, then you should really re-evaluate your driving ability anyway.

Shut the hell up! Don't forget that the point to ABS is to maintain cornering traction while braking (it does not shorten stopping distance in a straight line like a lot of people think). You think you're such a great driver that when someone pulls out in front of you, you're going to be able to keep your cool and threshold brake while dodging him? Formula 1 drivers don't even pull that off perfectly every time they need to. Are you so arrogant that you think you're a better driver than Schumacher or Alonso?

You can take out the fuse and you will be just fine. Thats what I had to do since my car was stolen at a point in its life, and they cut all the abs wiring. Been driving on it for months, no problems.

Because you're a loser and you posted this topic, simple as that.

"if you need ABS you need to learn how to drive."

Do us all a favor and die. While it's true a lot of Honda owners don't like ABS because they all think they're races competing in H1, there's one simple fact that you're overlooking: ABS IS SAFER. I don't care how you try to slice it, that's the reason it's standard on 95% of USDM cars sold new today. So you can try to use your ricer logic about "knowing how to drive" all you want, but the fact of the matter is simply that it's safer.

Let me rephrase this from your bullshit to the truth.

If you've never accidently locked up your brakes, then you haven't been driving long enough. It happens to every driver, at least once, eventually. Sorry to disappoint you arrogant ricer bitch.

Go on and go "delete" your g/f's ABS, then when she's talking to your dumbass on her cell while driving and then when she sees the old guy jamming on his brakes in the CTS in front of her and she locks up her brakes and merges the front end of her civic w/ the rear end of his CTS, you can feel like **** and hopefully off yourself.

Formula one drivers don't use ABS, the reason why REAL races (such as formula 1) don't use ABS is because it creates discrepancies in the braking distances, so it becomes too impossible to "learn" how your car reacts when it goes into each corner different. Now, I think it's safe to say they are professional drivers, and even they lock up the brakes from time to time, it happens, you guys are no better.

The main point of ABS is NOT to maintain cornering traction, it's exactly what you said it wasn't .

The main point of ABS is so when somebody freaks out and plants the brake to the floor you don't lock up all four wheels. When your wheels are locked up, you cannot control your car, the ABS prevents the wheels from locking so you can still control the car, it decreases the chance of an accident.

I hate to be a dick about it, but most of you guys posting in this thread are useless idiots.

(not all, but most).

It's very simple, regardless of whether you want to admit it or not, ABS improves safety and reduced accidents. That is why your insurance is lower if you have ABS. If you're a real driver you'll admit to having locked up the brakes at least once. And if you haven't, you will. The best of the best have locked up their wheels at least once. If you claim you never have and you never will, you're just a useless ricer bastard who's too afraid of what other people think to speak the truth.

I can only hope that some of you guys can change .

I agree that abs works and its a very nice feature. I myself never had a car with abs so its not like I'm missing anything, and for the amount of work I would have to do, to get abs working, is not worth it.

I was only saying if you take the fuse out, your car will drive fine. Yes you might lock the brakes up though since abs is not working.

As for insurance goes, I don't pay any less cause I have abs, I pay more cause its an "si"

You would have to remove the abs assemble, get new brake lines, either custom make them or get them from another civic. Running all new brake lines is not easy at all. You would probably have to drop the rear crossmember.
