Default Broken ez out - valve cover bolt

The other night I broke the center valve cover bolt, I guess im used to torquing these things when the engine is cold because it wasn't alot of force and it happened with the engine hot... anyways i got an ez out kit, BUT in the midst of taping in the ezout the tip broke off into the bolt...

I'm now at a loss for words, the bolt bolts to a cam shaft bearing type thing.. and it looks like the only way to get that part is to order the entire head..

So either I :

find a carbide drill bit and try to drill out the ez out ( they are a very hard metal, normal drill bits do not work )

or

Can someone sell me a non vtec cam holder thing: I'm really hoping someone has a LX (1998) non vtec head that they aren't using as a result of a mini me swap where they are willing to pull the part and sell it to me...

or I try to find it at a junk yard tomorrow...

I'm sure lots of you reading this have been in my shoes and can sympathize... someone help a DIYer out!!!

Hey thanks for the link but I 've never welded nor have access to a welder or have the ***** to try something like that...

I've read that a carbide drill bit might be able to drill out the ez out but it sound like iffy at most.. i think my best bet now is for me to replace that part

or just try driving without the bolt and using some liquid gasket in conjunciton with the broken bolt head..

someone please sell that a part off your d16y7 head!!!!

you can try to shatter the broken ez-out piece, i worked in a cylinder head machine shop for a long while and i came a cross ton of broken bolts and studs, and i've broke quite a few ez-out, you either have to shatter the broken piece with a hardened punch or drill out everything on drill press and have it welded and tap'd back out. if you have to drill it out then make sure you use a drill press so the bit can't wander off and make a crooked drill.

if you stripped it you are fucked..... if you just snapped the top off, you can get needle nose pliers and twist it out of there. I know i did this before with my massive upper slim body. Anyways, just twist it out put a small amount of elbow grease. Then go to your honda dealership and buy a 3-4 dollar valve cover bolt

edit: oh snap nvm you fubar

The way I have fixed broken ez outs before is drilling a hole at an angle from the side of the ez out down to below the ez out.

Start small and be patient. As you get larger in diameter the bit begins to move the ez out. I've popped all mine out in this way.

Just be patient and start with a smaller drill bit. Use cutting oil to help with heat

Hey, what's up...

Something similar just happened to me yesterday...I was tightening that same valve cover bolt and I guess I over-torqued it, because I broke the edge off the cam-shaft bearing-type thing...the WHOLE threaded section snapped off. Can I replace that cap-thing? Or do I have to get an entire new cap-thing? ...What is the name of that cap-thing, and how do I remove it from the head?

Thanks
