Default camshaft position

i have a zex 59300 camshaft with a d16z6 motor and i was wondering if i set the #1 piston to TDC (4-3-2-1). all i would have to do make the camshaft align with the TDC piston is put it in and set the camgear to 0* correct?

There is no key for the camshaft? Usually there is a small key to lock the position of the camshaft with the cam gear.

Just put a light coat of oil on the camshaft and the inner lip of the camshaft seal. Then just turn the camshaft until the key way is facing up. Piston number 1 should be at TDC.

There should be a lug on the end of the distributor, so when you put the camshaft back in, it should lock in place with the mating grooves on the camshaft. This is so the ignition will not be more than 180 degrees out of time.

So to answer your question, just set the rotor to the ignition wire number 1 (cylinder number 1). It's possible you may have to adjust the ignition timing though.

In other words, the dizzy only goes in one way.

The slot in the cam for the dizzy is off set to one side.

Remember the crank at TDC lines up on the 2 right side marks on the plastic cover, not the 3 marks.

Haha, he has a single overhead cam. Both marks are white and each are dirrectly across from eachother on the camshaft pully. These marks should allign directly horizontal (even) with the cylinder head surface... not the plasitc cover haha. Theres also should be the word "up" etched into the camshaft pully spoke. This should be pointing up (self explanitory) allowing you to maksure the TDC marks are not upside down.

And just as a reminder, im sure you took your timing belt off to take the camshaft out. Just double check that your timing belt drive pulley has the TDC. There is a grove on the actual pulley and that should allign with an arrow pointer on the oil pump. This would also be setting piston number 1 at TDC.
