Alternator Question
My car was making a weird noise under the hood, so im trying to figure this out. Almost sounded like a belt slipping plus a bearing going out. When the engine is running is the alternator supposed to be spinning at all times? I can see inside thru the slits on it and the coils are not moving... bad alternator possibly? Any help would be appreciated.
yeah when car is running alternator is running all the time charging battery..if alternator fails, your battery wont get charged and it wont fire up eventually and u will have a check battery light on your cluster probably.if u know how to take it off, your local auto shop will check it for u for free
and what kind of weird noise are u talking about ?? it could be ac belt..or something

Well it was making a weird chirping noise but now its just like a belt slipping, im assuming the bearing going bad. On the ribbed side of the belt it looks like its wearing so im thinking its spinning on the alternator pulley but maybe the bearing went bad so its not spinning the alternator itself.

in that case.get a new alternator from your local auto store..it is not worth buying components and fix the old one.
