Blowing fuse under hard acceleration in 1st gear
Blowing fuse only under hard acceleration and only in first gear. I put a higher amp fuse, 15 amp-->30 amp, in and when I accelerate hard the speedo and rpm needle intermintantly loose power, and voltage drops to like 10 volts.. After a couple times, the fuse finally pops and I loose my clock, windows rpms speedometer. etc. Dont know why it blows the fuse for the back up lights and turnsignals, when they both work even when the fuse is blown. This is the only fuse that blows. Even though there is a loss of voltage, the engine never seems to loose power. Any suggestions?

are your motor mounts ok? i say this cuz if the motor moves too much, your wiring harness may be rubbed thru somewhere, shorting this particular circuit.

I'd be looking for a bare wire even if the mounts are good.

Mounts are good, had an H22 swap for a few years, now. Im thinking bare wire or improper ground too. Just dont know why it effects that particular fuse. Thanks for the help. I'll tear through it this weekend

Just recently. Havent done any work electrically or anything, (recently changed control arms and exhaust) I do notice (for a while now) once in a while all my door ajar indicators light up for 3 seconds and goes away. Doesnt happen often though. Pretty random.
Actually I did. Welded on my exhaust. Didnt think about that though. Ground was on the exhaust. There was about a week or so between welding, and when I noticed a problem. The weld was about half way between the cat and muffler. You think that might be the culprate?

Went throught the car pretty good this weekend. Checked all grounds, cleaned terminals on the alternator, checked batery, didnt find anything. Still having the problem blowing that same fuse.
No. Even with the fuse out, the brakes, turn signals and the reverse lights all work. Tried to look for any damaged wires conecting to these component but everything looks good. Changed a couple old taillights too just in case but nothing.
never heard of this problem but have your alternator checked out and make sure the belts not to tight or too loose. sounds like a fustrating problem though.
I am not sure if they are still available or not, but there used to be some "slow blow" fuses that would require that the amperage be there for longer than a normal fuse would tolerate before blowing. They were kind of a band aid for hard to track down transient surges.
Had not rained for a whie here and I now noticed that my windshield wipers dont work at all either. I suppose I'll check the wiper relay--that is under the dash right?
Still cant figure it out. I dont have any codes showing, but when I checked anyway, it came up with VSS. I gotta check visually tomorrow. Think that could be a cause?
Sounds like a surge of energy...try putting a higher amperage fuse in to see if it wil handle the amperage...not a good thing to do, but at least you won't get any tickets for driving with out lights on until you figure out what the real problem is...
Yeah like I said It was a lower amp fuse and now its a 30amp, I dont think there are any blade types higher than 30. Anyway, I accelerate enough in normal driving but If I lay into it itwill pop too.
