hmmmmmm.... wonder if thats a faded version or intentional. Im very strongly considering the idea. I have an unpainted panel right now that i might take off and try to experiment with.
staying up for anyone with a darker shade of red. darker than milano.
thanks.

well, im not going to disagree seeing as how ive never seen a flat/satin job up close, but Every project that has it stands out to me. A satin job in my area would stand out very nicely and i think that originality counts for something. besides, this is basically my hooptie for a year or two, then getting a New Si for daily. Just something to have fun in. and besides, anything would look better than it does right now.

Hey, my old Civic. The "paint" is actually DuPont red oxide epoxy primer. It lightened a little over time. Also, the action shot was taken on a really bright day, while the other two were taken just before sunset.

pm sent. thanks for the images being in the thread. anymore would be appreciated. im almost positive that im going to do this. I think with all black textured accents, this could be a very nice/different look.

I saw that Subie at SEMA. The paint looks X 10000000 better in person. Its one of those "the pics dont do it any justice". I believe the paint is from D-BASF. The paint job seems to be the "trend", because there there a lot of flat/ satin project car there.
that subie pulls it off really well, but it is almost orange. I read that you can take regular paint and add a flattening agent to it to create a nicer flat paint. or was it the clear coat? hmmmm...

The process is easy.
Either:
1. find a satin red rustoleum type paint and spray it on with a gun.
2. have a paint shop mix you a single stage with flattened clear.
3. spray normal red base coat, then spray flattened clear on top.
They sell cans of flattener that you add to clear coat. On the can it tells you what ratio to use to acheive either flat, eggshell, satin, or semi-gloss.

The ratrod guys have been using these "flat" paints for years. Most are using a single stage paint that is flat or a dual stage with a flat clear. Please DO NOT put primer on your car without painting over top of it. The primer will soak up water and moisture in the air. This is really bad for you cars body.

I'd bet that is a red base coat with flattened clear.
This would also be the most durable.

This is only true if you primer over bare metal. If a guy with a civic scuffs up his factory paint and primes is, he will not have any problems, because there is still paint and clearcoat underneath the primer.

and that chevy si the winner, thats exactly what i want mine to look like. /thread, daddys buying paint and making it happen. that would look feckin sick with some touched up rub strips and some black texture here and there.
