92 accord with intresting issue. PLEASE HELP
I got a 92 accord wagon a few months ago. It was literally the cheapest honda in the auto trader and now Iam finding out why. Once in a while it refuses to start. It is an automatic and the fourth gear lite on the dash flashes even though it is in park(once in a while). If i shut the car off when this is happening it usually wont restart. I originally thought it was a lack of electricity to the computer to let the car know it was in park. I assumed the batt was bad because it did die on me after 3 weeks of owning the car so I replaced it. Then I replaced the alternator. Now with a good batt and alt the problem has surfaced again. I use this car to deliver pizza for extra $$$ and hope someone can help me so I can get back to work.
Oops, just did a little more reading and realize that what the flashing is now. (error code duh) I never even thought to look for a pattern. (I'm not stupid but i am a dummy sometimes and tend to over think things.) The car is over at my buddies and I am gonna pick it up tomorrow and do the auto zone free code read deal. The question now is I am 99% sure the car will be running fine when I show up. Since the code wont be flashing when i need it to should I evevn bother goin? Are they able to find the error code any way or does it have to be going right then? The gremlin is very annoying that way. Oh yea when the flashing 4 lite happens the car stays in 4th and i have **** manually if I wann get goin.
Anyone had similar issues? I really need to make this car reliable cause of my job. Please help me save her.

I don't want to assure things here... but i believe your "main relay" might be involved on this. Use the "search" feature on the accord forum to learn more about similar cases.
Thanks, That helped alot. I am not new to engines but I am to hondas. There were alot of people having similar issues (when I searched "main Relay) hopefully I read enough and learned enough to fix this tonight. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I hope u find money in the street. I will post ya when I get it fixed with the result.
I agree with gianinline, that it's probably your main relay. I had a 91 accord AT that would drive fine during the cool seasons of WI. However, when summer came along, my car would feel like it wants to stall at a stop light or if I shut it off, it wouldn't start for a while. Once I resoldered the main relay, works like a charm. Now I drive my brother-in-laws 92 accord 5-spd and it does the same thing. It actually stalled at the gas station, after getting gas, for about 15 mins (that suckes at 5pm when everyone is going home from work
). Once again, resoldered the main relay and hasn't stalled yet.

Thanks again guys. I switched out the relay last night. $62.50 for a new one at nappa. (it is under the dash under the cruise control box. It's not too hard to get to but it is a little awkward to get on your back and work under there though.)
Anyway, So far so good as far as the car starting goes. Since the issue was an intermitent one I guess only time will tell. Now the fan on the passenger side sounds real rough though. It amazes me how whenever I fix something almost immediately something unrelated to the repair goes south right after.
Ive got my fingers crossed with the starting problem, Keep yers crossed for me too PLEASE!!!
Now Im off to research the fan issue.
Thanks everyone.
I will keep ya updated as time goes on.
