Motor Mount Bolt Broke off In my block!!!
ohhh dude! am I in deep **** or what? Over the weekend I had my front and rear mounts replaced. In addition, I also added the polyurathane inserts from Energy Suspension. In the process of replacement, as the front motor mount was being taken off the top bolt BROKE OFF! The head of the bolt has completely ripped off of its stem and the stem is sitting inside the block. There are a total of 3 bolts for the front motor mount... right now I am currently riding on 2 bolts.
Seriously how bad is that for the engine? Could this lead to more problems? How do I resolve this issue?
Maybe this is the root of cause to why my car is shaking. Maybe a mixed between the polyurethane inserts and the missing bolt? Can someone verify whats going on here?
Here are my symptoms:
1. Car shakes like crazy while sitting in idle or neutral.
2. Car shakes even more when put into any of the gears
Please help.

That one bolt missing shouldn't be causing all of that. If anything it would just cause an audible rattling sound, if the other 2 weren't tight.</TD></TR></TABLE>
yeah i got an automatic. would that be a problem?
what would you suggest? should i take off my front bumper and raditor and try to drill through the broken stem? maybe I can get a screw extractor and remove it.

A similar thing happened to my buddy with his ITR. Here's the thread:

Blake, I'm almost sure it is broken off inside the hole. If it was me, I'd just leave it, honestly, as long as the other 2 are soundly in and tight, I wouldn't bother. That job is gonna be very tough just because of the location.

exactly, its going to be a bitch and a half to best that stem out. the two other screws are secured very well... but I'm scared that it might lead to other problems in the feature. perhaps another broken bolt inside my block. if i drive with 2 bolts on for the next 100,000 miles wouldn't it eventually ruin the other two bolts due to vibration?
you are very knowledgeable. I will leave it in there ok so that eliminates that.
hmMmm.. i'm so confused to why my car is shaking so bad?

98vtec I appreciate you posting on this thread and helping. I am very aware of the type of vibration because I sat in my friends car with polyurethane inserts and he said, "now when you install these inserts, dont expect the car to not shake. its going to vibrate a little more than normal". So I sat in his car, felt it and drove it and I was satisfied with the inserts. But once it was installed to my car it was like shaking 40x more than his. my car is in wonderful conition. I can drive over bumps with my susension set up and never hear rattling EVER.
but now i hear rattling throughout the whole car after the job. I just want to know if I need to worry about the missing bolt OR the hard mounts.
Do you know if polyurethane mounts need to be broken into?

p.s. i only have 1 bolt holding my front motor mount to the block and i don't get any vibration at all! I'm waiting for my motor mount set from innovative so I can eliminate the front mount completely

whhhhaht?! why do you have only 1 bolt holding on your front motor mount? isn't that dangerous?
again i know the difference between inserts vibration on my prelude and insert vibration on another.
mine is completely different. its not a vibration, its a 10.0 earthquake.

+1 for inserts causing the vibration..
And, also, I rode around with one bolt for a long time, im not saying its safe, but it did it for about 5 months. Just get innovative or explicit speed performance motor mounts, then you wont even need a front mount at all.

huh? please explain i'm all ears. how can explicit or innovative motor mounts remove the first mounts? isnt it needed?

Have you ever seen a the picture of the kit innovative offers? There's only 3 pieces. Rear, and 2 side mounts. They dont offer a front, because since the other mounts are solid I dont think a front is as necessary. B series guys roll without front mounts all the time.
I have no front mount on my car either now, not since I got the innovative mounts.

p.s. i only have one bolt holding my front mount because on the others, one snapped like urs and the other hole has stripped threads

dude i'm sorry to hear that you got stuck in my situation TWICE! bummer man. but thats cool that innovative made these mounts.
now with 2 missing bolts are you feeling heavy vibration like mines?

Um i vote the inserts too. i just installed my innovative race mounts. and wow yeah dunno if i like the vibration. i broke my tranny stud. havnt fixed it yet gotta get the broken one out 1st. so im in same boat as you ive been driving the car so far no problems.

ok so innovative mounts are even worst? i dont know how you guys can deal with the vibration. well i guess its good to know when all my front mount bolts are missing i can always use innovative. its better than nothing i guess.

its really not that bad. try eliminating your balance shafts. it gets worse. but worth it. i have my balance shafts but i do have the the inserts. its really not that bad or noticeable in my car.

I don't know where you're getting the idea that harder motor mounts are going to cause less vibration.

Here ya go,

I don't know about how much less, but I said minimal. I'll let you know as soon as my order gets in. I'm only replying from what it says on their web site and reviews I have read but I'll get first hand experience by the end of this week.

If it was me i would try getting out the broken bolt, first, just for the hell of it. Goodluck with it.
P.S: i went ot get in my car after work yesterday, and i noticed the rubbber near the side mirror had been pulled out from the glass about 10mm
. Someone must have begun to have a try at it when they were disturbed or they realised its a useless way to break into a Prelude and gave up. Now i got to jam the rubber back in there.
At least the theif had a good taste in cars, cant beat a Honda Prelude.
