Default Will stock SI CD player work in my '98 Hatch?

I've heard rumors of 2 different plugs between 96-98 and 99+ models. Will the stock SI player work in my 98? Thanks!

should be all good dude. very very very few of the 98 civics have the old skool harness in em. it should be cool..the 98 harness is a smaller blue blug which will plug up to your OEM Si unit. and the old school harness is wide and white.
hope this helps.

no it wont. i have a 2000 hatch. tried to use my friends 98 ex stereo. different plugs. its the reverse situation but the same rules apply. you can buy a stereo harness and reverse harness and splice them together. should work then.

Yeah, stock sucks... I'm just getting something to tide me over until I can go all out Alpine (Circuit City discount rocks nuts!). All my hatch has is a radio right now...

nope it will not work because the harness changed in 99. the 98's still have the old harness. circuit city discount does rule. all alpine in my 99 supercharged si

I put an SI CD player in my 96 EK, but had to make the wiring adapter harness. Its not that hard at all. You need to buy a stereo adapter plug for 96-98 civic (at any stereo shop) Then you need to buy the SI Stereo pig tail plug from honda. (Its the part of the wire that comes out of the dash in an SI) Its about 20 bucks. If the parts guy at your Honda Dealership is cool, he'll photocopy the wiring diagram for the civic radio out of the sevice manual. Thats what I got. After you get both plugs, its just a matter of matching the right wires together. Took me about 15 minutes to get them all wired up, and the CD player works perfect. Good Luck.
