I participated in the split start races this weekend for the 944 Cup and have to say that I'm very pleased with the professionism of the SPEC-Miata drivers. Our faster people caugh some of their slow guys and their faster people caught some of our slow guys but overall our two groups were very closely matched. It's very rare for us as 944 drivers to run against cars that are faster in the turns and slower in the striaghts than us... puts a whole new perspective on things.

In one of the practice sessions, Chris Cobetto and I went 2 wide through turn 1, 2, 3, 4 and the braking zone of 5. He locked them up on the outside of 5 and I got the spot but it was great fun. Thanks to NASA, all workers, SPEC-Miata drivers and especially Chris.

 

the spec miata / 944 cup race was one of the best I'd ever seen. Close clean racing with about a million lead changes in the miata race. Zalner kinda ran away with 1st in the 944 race but the other positions looked like real battles.

Yeah, unfortunately he had his engine built by Jon Milledge Engineering who is pretty much a demi-god when it comes to 944 engines. That combined with his 7 years of racing experience were just too much. Not to worry though, we have weight rewards for the winners so he'll come back to us soon.

 

The Zalner brothers are amazing. If you ever get the chance to ride along with them, or have them instruct, don't pass it up. They should be at the HypeR Fest next weekend.
