left turn signal causes engine to die
96 Accord - engine starts and runs fine, but when I turn on the left turn signal, the engine turns off. Will only re-start when turn signal is off. Right turn signal and Hazard lights cause no ill effects. Left Turn signal works as intended when ignition is off. This is my Daughter's car. Someone told her he had the same problem and it was related to a vacuum line leak.... it sounds crazy to me too.
I would think if a hotwire was grounding it would blow a fuse before it turned off the engine. Most likely something is wrong with the turn signal switch and it's causing the ignition switch (also located inside the steering column covers) to kill the engine....that would be my best guess.
It's definately not a vacuum leak
It's definately not a vacuum leak
The vacuum leak doesn't make much sense to me. My vote would be interference / short in the steering column somewhere between the turn signal wiring and your ignition switch wiring.
I once knew of a Cadillac where you had to have the left turn signal on to start the car - otherwise the start position on the ignition switch would blow the car's horn and not crank the engine...odd...I know. I wouldn't have believed it had I not driven the car...

If your 96 accord has an alarm, check the alarm system for possible cause of short circuit in the ignition systems. (when the alarm brain goes, it causes weird problems, rarely the same twice) I have a 95 2door accoord and a 96 4door v6. In my 95 i had to replace the ignition, and the harness was part of the turnsignal harness. it took me about a half hour to open the steering column and replace the harness. Your accord should be the same way. My 95 has an f22 engine. may be the same as yours. I paid $150 for ignotion and harness. If you have time to wait, you may find one cheaper on (www.autopartswarehouse.com) Good luck
