HOA better get their heads out of their asses.
All I've got to say is that I paid $19.8k for my mazdaspeed 3.
A machine that's wholely superior to any performance car that's currently offered by Honda.

Honda's my homie
I admit, but sometimes I wish a big dose of humility would crash into their crib. Problem is, there's always enough dummies to keep Honda's ego inflated. The result: half-assed efforts and trying none-too-hard, riding on reputation.
(whoa, where'd that come from?)

Not trying to start a flame war.
But you're delusional if you're saying that the MS3 isn't the absolute performance bargain of the century.
The car isn't just a bargain, it's rock solid and takes abuse with little drama.
The duratec based turbo 2.3 is also freakishly bank-vault like.

I'd like to see how a Finance or lease company would handle the huge increase in price...Also the Insurance too.
But jacking up the price on any "new" car is not unheard of... Ex(s): when the Huyndia SantaFe came out it was being sold 2.5- 5K over sticker.
ITRs same ****- albeit they are actually rare and the start of each RX7 generation ws jacked up too.
Is that really the wing Honda slapped on it? Functional or not.
Looks like they stole it from the STi

The simple fact that Honda had the ***** to pull a stunt like this, says a lot about their core audience.
Is it HOA or the delers marking up the prices?
And what are you saying about the their core audience?
<--- does not want to assumewhat you are thinking

Better than the S2000, even? I dunno about that.
Also, dealer markup will be horrible on those Civics, just like it was with the ITR in 97.
And you can't compare a Mazdaspeed 3 'discount' price to dealer over-retail for an option package that's only aesthetic in nature.

I won't get into a FWD vs RWD debate here, plus I know you're a pretty objective chap. But the S2K is no ITR. Not even the CR.
Personally, I have never been a big fan of the S2K, and, for $30K+ there are other cars I'd rather have. Both new and used.
In terms of bang for your performance buck the MS3 definetly beats the S2K. Not to mention the utility and comfort of a 5 door wagon.
The MS3 has proven to have the brakes and chassis to back up it's bite. The car is fast stock, with $1000 in bolt on's it's ridiculously fast. See how well Cobb and AMS are doing with the MS3.

Bang for the buck is so difficult to measure. Maybe in 1/4 mile performance the MS3 holds its own or wins, but on an autox or roadcourse, stock for stock the S2K will pretty much walk all over an MS3 (even an ITR).
Let's just not get carried away in saying its better than 'every' Honda. Better than the new Civic, yeah. Honda will probably discover that people will start migrating to other makes of FWD performance cars if they keep oversizing and under-performing their cars. Still though, at 80K miles I'd bet the Civic has better resale and overall reliability. That's something Honda has always excelled at and why people are willing to trade 25+ hp for these aspects.
And once you start modding a car, all bets are off.

That's opinion, not fact. Auto x you're probably right, but roadcourse the MS3 isn't just gonna bend over and take it. Remember that the MS3 is faster than the ITR and s2K. Forget about magazine articles and 0-60 times, the MS3's roll on power rivals cars far more expensive. Just look at how this basic bolt MS3 pulls in the straights. And then tell me that bang for your buck is "so hard to measure"

I was refering to Honda's "performance" offerings in the segment, not their bread and butter cars. Honda's do have better overall reliability than Mazda's. But that means nothing to someone looking to get the most performance for their dollar.
The MS3 is a "wholely superior" car when you consider the coin involved. Bolt on's on an S2K will make some "nice vTak noises", but will do little or nothing at the stopwatch.
(i.e. $1500 Mugen CAI that actually makes it slower and noisier....pathetic)
Making an S2k faster with external mods is like getting blood from a stone, and, it's glass rear diff makes it F/I unfriendly.
The two suggested first mods for the MS3 are CAI and DV = $500 = .7
Again, bang for your buck isn't that hard to measure.

Damn they are really marking these up!
The one local to me, was still at sticker price.

You're getting into modifications and that shouldn't be part of the argument.
You've got to speak about how a car rolls off the showroom because once the mods begin--there is no end in sight. I counter your boost mods on an MS3 with R compounds on the S2K (that'll more than make up for boost on a roadcourse). Then you go to R comps and I'll go to suspension...it's a never-ending argument and it shouldn't be in the equation.
Also, no FWD car will ever be a bang for the buck champion as long as V8 domestic ponycars are around and the big 3 are almost giving them away with zero % financing and factory rebates.
