taking the steering wheel out without using Gear Puller
Is there any other way to take the steering wheel out after taking the 19mm bolt? I do not want to go out and buy a gear puller and use it once and let it sit around and collect dust. I tried wiggling the **** out the steering wheel but it wont shake loose and I also use a rubber mallet.
Get a philip's head or a punch and a mallet. Put it on the hole on the end of the steering column. Brace your knees against the wheel and press against the floor with your feet to create pressure. Beat on the screwdirver/punch with the mallet.
Try squirting a small amount of pb on the threaded area and allow it to penetrate so it works its way under the wheel. Then try yanking on the wheel with a hand on each side of the wheel. The pb may just break it loose enough to pop off.
loosen the nut all the way, then thread it back one a little so it'll prevent the wheel from coming off, then just start wacking away or pull like crazy
always works and the nut prevents the wheel from smacking you in the face

you dont have to buy the puller,go to autozone and rent one, its like 15 bucks, then when you bring it back its a full refund.last thing you want to do is mess up the spline and have the new hub not fit correctly.
This is how I do it. I've done so many.
1. Loosen the 19mm nut a few turns, but do not remove.
2. Put hands at about 2 o'clock and 8 o'clock (or any comfortable position).
3. Give the wheel a couple of quick, hard jerks to pop it off.
