On Friday 9th , NZhondas held their annual track day at Taupo Track as part of thier North Island Mega Meet weekend. Jacky, Colin, Sam and myself went down on the thursday afternoon taking down Colins EK's both k20 and b16b. Sam brought [ITR] out after a year of improvments and upgrades.
We arrived at the track friday morning and the day was looking to be a scorcher with no clouds in the sky. After a quick meeting on how the day would unfold, the pro group was first out onto the track. Sessions were at 5 lap intervals for each class and ran smoothly over the day.
Unfortunately sam couldnt run his brand new semi slicks as we needed spacers to clear the spoon callipers however he pressed on without too much worry.
The K20 Ek4 suffered from brake issues and was rather hairy to drive with a lack of setup, but Jacky still managed to get some good track time and then unleased his full efforts later on when he took out Colins other Ek9 with b16b that was alot better and well balanced.
The highlights were the 170kw ss2000 race integra running full slicks and the [SEXIGE] with insane acceleration through and on corner exits. Colins EK9 was one of the most well setup cars ive been in, was truely insane for stock engine. Was mean running two cars that looked exactly the same!!
(EK4 K20 has backyard front)(EK9 has carbon bonnet)
There were a couple of breakages like turbo manifolds and Logan with the grey/green EK had gearbox issues an retired.
Is an awesome track that tests all areas of the car and drivers skill, everyone did well and was an well organised day.
Heres some of my pics, enjoy:
