Default use OBD1 or OBD2?

I've got a bone stock D16y8 and I'm currently using a P72 ecu. I'd like to know if I need an OBD1 or OBD2 P28 ecu for this car to run efficiently (i.e. more responsive, no bogging, no more pig rich conditions, vtec activated, etc). Also note that this car is just a daily driver and will remain at that.

If the car runs fine and your not going to boost it why not stay at OBD2?

I don't know if my P72 is OBD2. Does that matter at all?
