a/c belt getting hot
hey! i am new here and hope you people could help me.my belt for the a/c that also runs the alt.and pully snapped,i replaced it and i know the tension of the belt is not to lose and not to tight.i took the accord for a test drive without a/c and was alright till i took another test drive with the a/c and there was smoke coming out from the belt side, while the accord was still running with a/c i was wondering what the hell, then there was a cracklyn noise on the belt side and had to turn off the accord.i also notice that my idle was not right and that my belt was to hot to touch.the car still runs but the belt is what bothers me as to why it get to hot.is it my compressor?because i had overcharged my system or could it be my pully?can i still run the accord with the belt getting to hot?please if any help thanks.
so far i have one for about $90.00 w/ warranty, but there is an a/c place here that would rebuilt my compressor, price don't know yet.do you suggest that i could reinstall the compressor myself without vacuuming the system? how much oil should i put in the compressor?i heard that about 8oz.bva 100 is about right..thanks
Your compressor (not just the clutch) is probably bad.
When you ran with the AC turned off it was OK, right? The clutch was disengaged & all was well.
When you switched on the AC, the clutch engaged but the compressor is seizing so it turns really REALLY hard. That's what burned up the belt.
You WILL need to have the system evacuated. First to recover your existing refrigerant, then again after you install the new compressor. Air inside the AC system is BAD.

Yea, sounds like the compressor is locking/locked up. IIRC, most of the time when the clutch goes bad, it will just stay disengaged and will not prevent the belt from turning. Like Jim said, you will have to have the system evactuated, vacuumed, and then recharged. Compressors are not cheap, but at least you know you probably won't need to replace it again for the life of the vehicle.
