civic axle or integra?
ok, snapped an axle in my 95 si with gsr hydro (passenger side) and went down to the local junkyard to get one to swap in. got everything out and ready to put the new one in when i realized i obviously had 2 different axles. from the pic, its obvious to see that one has something mid-axle that the other doesnt. i wasnt sure if it was used for abs or if the axle is simply out of a sohc. i also thought that maybe the original axle was aftermarket and that piece was just unneccessary so they deleted it. the splines look the same and both are 32mm, the shaft between the cv's tho is slightly thinner on the junkyard axle than the original one. then, im turning the axle to look for markings and i notice that the junkyard axle has "si" written on the hard cv in red paint pen leading me to think its a 92-95 sohc axle. i cant measure them since one has a cv snapped off so if anyone can please tell me if the new junkyard axle will work, i would really appreciate it..

dude...the thing on the "shaft" of the axle is just rubber and part of balancing the axle and reduces vibration.
U need to use a small hammer and knock the "ABS" ring off ur broken axles and tap it onto the one u went and got at the junkyard.
Done.

ok, so is it not on the original one because the original one is aftermarket or what? and my car isnt abs so i dont need to go through that hassle. but i just want to make sure that the junkyard one will fit because its such a bitch to get everything back and then have the axle pop out. and i looked up SR3 in archived and saw that it pretty much denotes 92-95 civic from what i could tell and then with the "si" in red paint pen on the junkyard axle, im worried its from a 92-95 si and will just pop out once i get everything good to go..

Check the ends, if there the same size then it should work. What did you tell the junkyard? Usually when people say si they talk about 99-00. I think you got a B series axle from the pic.
Edit: If it is marked SR3, then its more then likely civic.

yea the ends are the same size from what i can tell. i told them i needed an axle for a 96 gsr and they said all integra axles (within gen range) were the same, which i knew. so he said the axle was from a 95 ls.
thats why im confused, cuz it looks pretty damn similar to the one i pulled but the damn red paint pen and the sr3 markings are tripping me out. think i should just wait until they open up on monday and exchange it? cuz *** putting it back in and then getting everything back on and then having it pop out. thats not even the whole situation with my car, its way more work than that too.

the only thing that is the same with those 2 axles is they are both tri-pod mounts.. which almost all hondas have.. if you look at the end, there are no teeth that mount on the hub.. my advice. go to autozone. buy one for 54 dollars with a LIFETIME warrenty.. i snap axles like once a month and they just keep giving them to me

You know...SI looks a lot like "LS" upside down. Also, the 99+ SI Civic was B-series. D-series SI's don't have an intermediate shaft - they're unequal length. Put the axle in and stop being a little girl about it.

the original one is aftermarket from Mounument car parts and is still under warranty if you have the receipt (its a 95 gsr w/ abs axle to be exact). I would give you the receipt but you obviously dont care about receipts
i went in to autozone to take a look at theirs and found that i had a friend who worked there, so he exchanged it for a brand new axle (no charge) and then i returned the mystery axle to the junkyard for a refund. thanks for your concern
