Default What do you think of the Greddy turbo kit?

What do you think of the Greddy turbo kit? I was watching a "You Tube" video on it, where they had an AP1 with it on the dyno and it only got a total 245Hp. I mean for about $5,000 I'd expected more power, but anyhow what do you guys think? Would you buy it if you had the money or would you do other things to it? (motor wise)

First of all you can find a kit for quite a bit less than $5000. Even if it did cost $5k, i really dont think its a bad turbo kit. Its not made to make the most horsepower but rather a simple kit which makes decent power and is very similar to a factory turbocharged car. If you search hard enough you can find a kit for just under $4k. Considering its a complete kit with piggyback engine management, injectors, and everything else... you cant go wrong.

There's also a few that only made 250rwhp, and one that only made 200rwhp. ROFL.

Also one guy suffered a cracked manifold after a couple weeks of driving.

The Greddy kit is junk and always will be.

^^^

The cracked manifold was on the prototype tubular manifold. All production Greddy turbo kits will have a cast manifold which are what the OEM uses.

As far as the low horsepower, its impossible to tell what the root cause is on an online forum, too many variables. Improper installation?

If you read, a lot of issues with the sub 250 hp come from guys not researching properly and running test pipes and large diameter exhausts...which the pre-tuned piggy-back system DOES NOT work with. All the dyno's I have seen with the kit, combined with OEM cat and no larger than 63mm exhaust have been right at the 300hp mark.

It is not a junk kit. It is a complete kit designed for somebody that just wants a little extra midrange and top-end power, on pump gas, that won't destroy rear ends. Like stated before, Greddy kits are designed to be almost like an OEM option.

But, if you are willing to extend your budget a bit, have your car tuned, more power (a lot more) can be had with other kits.

its actually 3800, but it comes with no injectors your going to need engine management and other random things. probably come closer to 5.5k-6k depending what you want to add. the perk of greddy is its all in one kit. i have a kit but it was a big mistake. save your self the trouble people and stay away.

^ Most recent write-up on the kit.

IMHO - I like it. Very reasonable kit in regards to price and power.

Just to clarify though. Is your car exactly as Greddy tuned it for? OEM cat, 60mm exhaust? Did they send you the wrong blue box? I have read they accidently sent AP2 applications in some AP1 kits and so forth. I have not personally seen this kit, but talked to a few shops who have installed them. With out question, each shop said that as long as the right box is used, the cat is in place, the exhaust isn't bigger than 60mm, they didn't have any issues. Blacktrax is one shop I talked to in particular that had problems with the Greddy on a car with a test pipe and 73mm exhaust. Soon as he switched back to oem cat and oem exhaust, had no problems (he only did to figure out the problem. I believe his car now has the test pipe and exhaust back on, along with EMS).

I know a handful of people with the kit and are pretty happy. Let me know how much more you like the AEM though, like I said - the ones I know are pretty happy with greddys setup so I would DEFINITELY appreciate your opinion. Mine is getting installed as we speak.

well im having a bunch of problem, that suprisingly a lot of people are having. the map is messed up on the emanage and my car randomly shuts down and runs on three cylinders. I know its not mechanical because as soon as i restart the car the problems go away. and i had greddy "verify" the harness and eman were ok, and guess what they were. bs in my opinion. anyway ill post back after i get aem. but be on the look out for missing parts in your kit, make sure its the right harness for ap2 and when doing the oil fitting for the oil pressure sensor becarefull not to strip those bolts. goodluck.

I think its over-priced, under-powered, and over-rated.

i wouldnt say its that expensive can be had for 4000 give or take 100, its not that underpowered. i dynoed 286 with massive timing pulled and fuel added. and i can agree about the overrated thing though. you guys should really do your homework before going the turbo route, this might not be the best kit for all. but aside from the emanage it really is a nice kit.

Dude those numbers are still terrible. I dynoed at around 320 with retarded timing. (when I did the install I forgot to compensate for the 3mm headgasket, so I clocked the timing gear/chain wrong) I'm running an inline kit by the way.
