i recently got a ticket for modify exhaust. so today i end up swapping out my apexi ws exhaust and put back on the stock one. well i was looking at my cat today and that sucka is completely hollow out (no fragment of any kind of mesh even existed)! is that how the cat on the 4 cyl accord engine suppose to look like? from my understanding the cat suppose to have a honeycomb mesh inside of it.

second question is i hear of the cat going bad, but can the mesh get burnt and exit through the exhaust? i got the the exhaust about 1 yr ago and 9 months ago i had the car smog for my registration sticker and it pass so it must just happen recently that it been hollowed.

btw i drive a 99 accord. engine is f23a4 ulev-vtec model.

 

are you sure it was the cat and not the resonator? the resonator is hollowed out if its the actually the cat it will have honeycomb unless someone modded out, mine is knocked out up to the O2 sensor and no CEL!

 

im sure it's the cat. it is the piece btwn the exhaust manifold and the pipping for my exhaust and the 02 sensor is plug into it. if i get a chance i'll take a picture and see how it comes out.
