Default Tokico Illumina's + Ground Controls. What spring rates???

I have searched this topic and have not found a thread that deals directly with my question. I was going to go with OMNI's but realized after searching that they are a one size fits all spring that would probably be to stiff for my shocks capabilities. Not to mention they are china trash made by an unknown spring manufacterer.

I just ordered my Illumina's (365.00 shipped ) and I am about to order my Ground Controls. So I want to know if the ots spring rates are fine or do I need to consider custom spring rates.

The car is a 94 dx hatch w/ b16 and will be extremely gutted (not a dd). The car will be used for drag and AutoX as well, so I want something that will perform well for both. Street ride is not that big of deal since this will not be a dd.

So HT standard spring rates or custom? If custom what do you recommend?

I can't recall exactly what the OTS rates are for the GC coils for the hatches, but off the top of my head I'd say not to go over 400 or 450lbs-in for the spring rates.

I don't know the exact capabilities of the Illuminas, but if people are saying to keep below 550-600lbs-in for Koni Yellows (regular, OTS valving), I'd stay below 450-ish for yours would be safe.

Maybe 350/400? That would be pretty good for the drag strip with the higher rates in the back, and it's not so rear-biased that the tail will get happy on the autocross course.

Thanks for your help

Does anyone know the ots spring rates from GC on the 92-95 hatch? I would rather run the ots spring rates if possible unless you guys think I could get considerably better performance from custom spring rates.

lol, someone's listening!

off the shelf is something like 350/275.

thats fine for most actually. and what youre trying to do is nothing special, so its really just about how you feel and perform. that takes trying different spring rates out.

if you start out with ots spring rates, you can just get a pair of like 400 or 450 used from used parts thread later. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1788196

I also wanted to thank you for your posts in the suspension section. My first idea for suspension was kyb agx w/omni coilovers. After researching different threads and reading some of your posts I realized how particularly bad that set up would perform together. Thanks because you saved me hundreds of dollars down the road.

Thanks for the link to the for sale thread. Some awesome deals in there.
