Is Civic a good first car?
Hey, I am about to get my first car and I like the honda civic a lot. I am prolly gonna get a used one but I wanted to know if it will be good for my first car? I like that there are lots of after-market parts for it and when I get more money I can tint the windows, get some differnt wheels, lights and other stuff.
A civic is an excellent first car, second, third...etc. A Civic has lots of potential and is supported my aftermarket like you said...(I'm not talking about altezza lights).
I was talking to my dad about racing and he was saying how all these new "riced-up" cars are fake and can't make a 1/4 mile in less than 10 seconds. He used to race when he was a kid and stuff, can a highly modified honda do it in under 10? I'm a rookie to full size cars now but Ive been racing model nitro powered rc cars for 6+ years now, and lots of times I had to set up the cars with the right gear ratios, shock oil, camber and caster, toe-in and toe-out, and lots of other stuff, can I also do this with a full sized car? Sorry for my noobie-ness
on the realness a civic a first good car, it is my first car. if you are trying to make this a 10 race car or something i would suggest you start off with a better base unless you are hook on a civic and have a crap load of money to spend. i dont want to stray to far from your post but a fast relatively cheap car if you can find 1 is a vw corrado g60 or if you have more money the vr6
Civic nice car but no Viper. You put lot money in civic... will look nice. Civic great for first time car. Friend might tell you... "Buy altezza tailights" but you no listen to friends...
In all honesty, go ahead a feel free to ask any questions. Although, there are other cars I could own..I don't think, I'll get another car.. My 1st car was a Honda, my 2nd car was a honda, my 3rd car was a Nissan, and my 4th car is a Honda.
Like I said jokingly *sp?* The civic is a simple car and super reliable. For the past 7 years that I've owned them... I never had to call anyone to come and pick me up because the car broke down (well i locked the keys one time)..... Just maintain it and be nice to her/him and he shall treat you well.

your expectations of a 10 second Civic are a bit unrealistic.
it's been done, but for alot less you can build a 10 sec. camaro, nova, 'stang, etc...
10seconds is pretty fast. to see a 12 sec N/A front wheel drive car is IMO much, much more respectable. remember, it has'nt been that long since the Big-Block boys used to laugh at the concept of a fast import. huge progress has and continues to make the scene more respected among the racing crowd.
anyway, back to your Q, i only wish someone had knocked some sence into me as a kid and advised me to buy Honda. there is NO better machine to own. but i believe you already know this or you would'nt have mentioned it here. so get a Honda, you'll thank yourself later.
good luck.

VW's have proved to be the shi*tiest vehicles built. i've owned 4, all H2o cooled. every time i'd turn the ignition over, something would break. G-60 is a great motor, if you wanna rebuild that blower every 30k

A civic is an excellent first car, aswell as having alot of aftermarket parts available for it, it is also one of the most reliable cars on the road. Even today the 92-95 civics are still very reliable.

User - X - Get a Honda as your first car...You'll be really happy and you can easily get used to driving and get to know your car..as time goes by and you get more money..you can easily do things to your car to make it nicer/ faster as time goes by....Alittle of advice - When you first get your Honda Civic, Make sure everything is working good on it and maintain it (I.E - Brakes, FLuids, Etc. Etc.) IF you maintain it...It will never Fail....
Some more Advice
Stay away from Altezza lights, Large Aluminum Wings, Huge Body kits with Air scoops and whatnot....These mods are very Pointless and IMO a waste of money...If I were you at the time...I would just Lower it maybe find some cheap Integra Gsr rims or something...Make it a nice car to drive and get used to driving on the road...PLEASE Do NOT make a 10 second car after 2 days of driving yor civic.....Doing so puts yourself and other motorists in Danger!!!!
Good luck with your first car!!

What is wrong with altezza lights? Ive seen lots of cars with them and I think they are nice. I found these ones on ebay that are "carbon fiber style" and I think would look good on a black civic. Here check them out:

dude seriously, if you get altezza's you will be labelled a ricer. But if you really like them buy them, it is your car anyway, do what makes you happy
Hondas are very good cars. Thats why i have owned 2.There are 10 second or sub 10 Hondas, but there is alot of money involved in doing so. I say if you really want to know what a Hondas is all about take it to a roadcourse. You will find that its more fun.
civic first car
it is my first and only car for the past 2 years
will altezza drop another sec off your 1/4 time ?
no, that why the majority of this board hates it.
RC car theory works roughly the same ...
it is where i got most of my knowledge on real cars
basic engine info ... suspension geometry ... etc ..

i WISH i would have had a civic as my first car. it's taken me 5 years to find what i REALLY want. a 12 second all motor car that'll still get GREAT gas mileage and be very reliable...and i'm almost there. too bad it took me 8 cars to finally figure that out.
*thinks about how much money he's spent in the past on cars he didn't really want*
my first car was a low 12 second camaro....dang that was a quick car. i still miss it, but i'd still take my current civic over it

I own 3 Civic's right now and had 2 in the past. My first car was a 1990 Subaru Justy
but that thing ran like a tank in the winter
After that my 2nd - 6th have been 3 Civic's and 2 CRX's.

A Honda is a great first car, I have 2 myself( 1995 Civic Coupe and a 2001 S2000), they will be dependable and get you to to Point A and Point B and back as long as you take care of them. And when you finally decide to fix up your car, don't go driving crazy on the street because you just put a new intake in and you "feel" faster, it will be better for you and others on the road.
yea it is a good first car. matter of fact i am selling my car 00 si checkout the post........ https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=214852 let me know
