Hey guys,
As an ITR owner, I'm always in awe of the ITR Expo event you guys have. A friend and I had a somewhat crazy idea that perhaps, with some of your assistance, we might be able to make it over!
I would assume that we would fly in to NY, and travel to VIR from there.
I guess I'm just throwing the idea out there to see if you guys would be opposed to the idea of one or two crazy Aussies gatecrashing your awesome event... ? And perhaps help us out with finding places to stay etc?

I wouldn't be much help since I'm in Chicago and yes, it would be great to have some foreigners at the Expo

Anyways, if you guys decide to visit Chicago I would be more than willing to help out Type R Aussie(s)

Geoff (tartje) attended last year from the other side of the pond as well.
There are closer places to fly in than NY. You don't want to fly in Laguardia that time of year anyway, haha.
I can pretty much guarantee you every member on this forum in America would be down to help you in any way possible. It'll be easier to finalize plans as registration opens up, and people start making plans.

That would be awesome, an NY would be great to fly in to, because a lot of the Expo experience is Caravaning and meeting up with everyone, and picking up new Rs and and friends a long the way. It's a blast.
Yeah you could fly in to somewhere closer to VIR, but that's just no fun.
Plus the NE guys are awesome, you'll have a great time.

I'd love to bring my car too, I wonder how much it would cost... Probably prohibitively expensive I'm guessing. Then theres the RHD thing. hmm...

Ahhh! Someone thinking along the same lines as me! I'd like to see a bit of the countryside when I'm there... not just go directly to VIR and only see that..
Yeah, this is the idea. Meet up with a bunch of people and make the trip to VIR. Sounds like a blast indeed!

Oh it is, I went from the west coast of the states the last 2 years without my R and it was still a blast hanging out with friends, seeing the country. Even though I missed my R while I was there (who wouldn't) I still had a blast, and like JorZED mentioned, 99% of the regulars in here will be more then willing to help you out in any way, so that shouldn't even be a concern.
NY to Virginia (VIR) has some awesome country scenery.

Eh, it wasn't as much fun for me because I didn't know anyone, and was a complete nobody. I had hardly started posting and had only gotten my ITR like 2 months before Expo. I'm hoping to meet some people and have more fun this time around. And I'll be racing this time instead of just hanging out.

Don't worry, I'm sure there will be some other RHD cars.

Jon D can't play tour guide this year unfortunately, otherwise i would be more than happy to have you! If you fly into NY there will be a **** load of people that could entertain you
you guys will have a great time and if you can join in on a caravan for the ride to VIR that will only make it better
plus if you have never been to the states you can always do the traveling tourist things as well. NYC is a must.

Hey Guys,
I am thinking of making the trip with freakygeek from Australia as well.
Have been lurking on these forums since 2001, but have never posted, will have to put up an intro thread one of these days.
Rental cars allowed on the track at VIR?

By VIR's rules, most definitely. I've seen V6 Mustang rentals tear it up. One literally
For Expo it will depend on the organizers, but I'm sure if y'all are willing to fly from Australia, things can be arranged
BTW - there is excellent lodging at the track - finalize your plans early though!

You won't be the first Aussie at an Expo in the States. A fellow with the username NeoNSX on NSXprime was at NSXPO a couple of years ago.
You'll have to figure out what travel plans work best for you. I'm sure someone here will be happy to pick you up at whatever airport you fly into and drive you to VIR. So it's really up to you to make your travel plans, figuring out where to fly to, and then people can take you from there.
Regarding travel plans, here's some information on flights here. If you look at a map of the States, you can figure out where everything is. The closest airports to VIR are Greensboro/High Point NC (GSO) and Raleigh/Durham NC (RDU), both about an hour away. You don't have to fly all the way to either of those cities; you could fly to, say, New York and then get a ride with someone driving to the Expo. But at least now you know where you would fly if you were trying to fly as close as possible.
A quick check of Qantas's route map shows that they fly into Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York. So I think you're going to have to fly into one of those four cities. New York is your best bet, because it's fairly close to VIR (about 400 miles). You could either get a ride to the Expo with someone driving from the New York area, or you could fly from New York to GSO or RDU and anyone could drive you from there. (Even if you flew to Honolulu, Los Angeles, or San Francisco, none of those have non-stop air service to GSO or RDU, so even if you're flying all the way to GSO or RDU, it will still be easier to do it via New York, which would then only require one connecting flight, not two.)
Hope that all makes sense to you, mates!
