anything wrong with a 01-05 civic manual tranny?
im looking to get the 01-05 civic coupe or sedan w/ manual tranny. i saw alot of people talk about the auto tranny taking a crap on them before 100k miles on the 01-03 models, but how about the manual tranny on the 01-03, 04-05 models?
ived checked the pricing, and its under 5k for one with higher mileage, about 6k for one with decent mileage
just want to make sure before i but

it's a hit or miss on a few of them to have the throw out bearing or input shaft bearing go bad and cause noises. otherwise, i think the 01-02's can have weird 2nd gears. I have an 02 m/t that has quirks, but nothing you dont learn to ignore after a while. 2nd gear feels different than the others going in, and occasionally 1st gear comes out of the gate with some force behind it (almost pops out on its own, for some people it actually does). but it doesnt happen all the time and for the most part, my tranny is the only part of the car that hasnt let me down after 1.5 years of boost.
01s (as a whole car in general) should be avoided.
Some of the early production 02s still have the bad 2nd gear synchro (it randomly pops out of gear), and some trannies, at random, have bad imput shaft bearings.
Between 02 and 05 its a but of a crap shoot, but it sounds as if the 04 and 05 transmissions were the final iteration of improvements. The key in a used one is to find one that hasnt been hammered on.

Nothing is really of use for NA. In theory, the A1 tranny would be better for boost, but since no matter what you do the car has no low end torque, I'd keep the shorter gearing. 1st gear is all but useless in either transmission, as long as you got decient tires and a good road, 2nd gear will hold on just fine. I dont think anyone's ever fittled with trying to build a hybrid of the 2. Not sure what would come of using an A1 final drive with the shorter gearing in the A2 tranny or visa versa.
