I just did mine not too long ago, and it's making a slight whining sound when the engine revs. That's an indication that it's too tight.

Just got by the helms procedure. Turn it counterclockwise 3 teeth after the slack is removed. As long as you do some tensioning procedure, I don't think it can be too loose.

Okay I have helms for h23a1, and I need helms for h22a, which i dont have. I need to know how to get enough slack on the belt to get this thing working. Also I did a quick search and got a few results, but nothing to great to help me

Autotensioner = no tension adjustment possible, hence the name autotensioner.

Manual tensioner on an H22 = follow the H23 tensioning procedure.

I've done this on 4 or 5 H22 manual tensioner installs that I've done, and no problems at all.

Hold on, exactly what are you asking? How to get the timing belt installed on the engine, or how to tension the timing belt?

To install the belt, set everything to TDC on the #1 cylinder, push the tensioner all the way downward, lock the tensioner in place, and install the belt.

With the autotensioner, you have to compress the tensioner, install the special tool, then install the tensioner in the engine, install the belt, then remove the special tool.

Okay sorry I know it may be confusing, but yes how to install the belt.

So on manule tensinor, push the tensinor all the way down and lock it into place, and then install belt.

And TDC on Cylinder num 1. You just have to put all the gears in the TDC marking postion
