Default butterfly valves + boost = bad? (searched)

I've been reading up on these butterfly valves in the OEM IM and was wondering if it was a good idea to remove them, or to keep them open, on a boosted H22.

What would be the pros/cons of doing this?

LOL! Remove it? This is isn't a diesel engine, you need a throttle.

Sorry, that's what I meant. Ie. only keeping the TB's butterfly valve.

Alright, fair enough. Could someone please confirm which valve to release on the IM? It's the one on the back right side correct? The AIB check valve?

Excellent

So just disconnecting that vacuum will keep the secondary butterflies open.

Out of curiosity, would this affect the idling at all?

Yes just disconect the vac line, and as long as you cap the line somewhere along the way either at the intake manifold nipple or just put a screw in the end of the line to plug it then you will not have idle surge.

Alright.. so disconnect the hose from the IM and cap it off.

Will do!

Thanks again!

See BLACKTRAX.net
This is a pic of my Stage3 Modded BTP IM
Removed IABs and ported 2 plates to take their place.......Not to mention it looks great. Possibly the reason I make power to 8200rpms now!

They now offer these....something I will be changing to over winter!

very sexy indeed. however, I'll stick with the OEM manifold for now. I've yet to find a reason to get rid of it.

Oh, and what exactly am I supposed to cap off? The vacuum line or the nipple on the IM?

You'll want to cap the open nipple on the IM if you remove the whole vacuum box and control solenoid. It will be the nipple on the back of the plenum.

if you remove the vacuum, and keep them open then its going to affect vtec, leave it alone.

alright, I took apart the vacuum line as instructed and caped off the nipple on the IM. I left the vacuum line hanging there for the time being.

After turning on the car everything seemed to work just fine! My idle is substantially better and throttle response has definitely improved.

My car used to have big issues idling after the car was turned off and turned back on after it hit peak operating temp. But now the problem seems to have fixed using the method explained in here.

I'm not sure how beneficial this would be on an N/A setup, but it seems to have worked very well on my turbo'd engine.

I have yet to actually take the car out to see how this mod would work when the engine is under load. But thus far I've noticed a huge difference in the engine's idle behavior when in neutral.

I'll post more results when I take the car out later on today (Saturday).

Nice glad it worked out for you . Just a tidbit:...If you get some more time on your hands try removing the middle plate all together and compair the over all results. May require some tweaking( downlow mainly) but you might be surprised under boost
