Default OT: Cleaning your ITR with the drought...

Just curious. Anyone else on water restriction with the southern droughts?

$200 fine now in Raleigh with no warning if you're washing your car at your house. This is getting so old because it's really a pita wasting $7 at the coin operated places.

I've read that Georgia has it just as bad as NC though.

It's a $500 fine in Wilmington and a misdemeanor charge, according to a flyer mailed out by the city. And water isn't even in short supply here at the moment. Going to a car wash is about the only option, or attempting to wash indoors (garage space etc.)

Funny you mention that. I was actually contemplating putting extra hinges on my fence in order to drive into my backyard which has zero visibility from the street.

I live in SC and we don't have any limits in place that I am aware of. I usually have my car washed at the office by the mobile car wash guy. The name of his company is "How It Look"
Hahahaha, he only charges $15 and usually takes around 2 hours to complete each car. Drive to work with a dirty car, leave with a clean one.

My R was washed one time after I got it running. It will never get another bath as long as I own it.

More of a reason to move to Cary/Morrisville

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">7. Are there any restrictions on washing cars, driveways or houses?

No. The Town (Cary/Morrisville) has not placed any restrictions on outdoor washing, including car washing and power washing. Citizens are encouraged to consider limiting the frequency of these activities in light of the statewide drought. </TD></TR></TABLE>

Hey in Northeast, $10.00 for a good hand wash that include glass and vaccum which is cheap.

While I agree that TypeRSR's responses are usually , in this case, they have a perfectly valid point of view - it is fully capable to wash your car with one bucket of water. It's actually what more people should be doing. People everywhere think that there is no need to monitor water use when in reality it is not as abundant of a resource as they think. As long as water comes out of the tap/spigot, people don't care where it comes from or where it goes, which is really unfortunate. So many re-uses of water could be implimented around the world and not enough people are doing it.

I don't like the public car washes either, but you cannot deny that limiting people's water use for non-essential-to-living aspects is a good thing.

So when it comes to drought conditions, why complain about fines being enforced? Isn't the overall sustainability of the planet more important than being able to wash your car?

More like 20,000 gallons, but meh.

We're dry as a bone here - did you read that they want the Army Corps of Engineers to start pumping water upstream out of Lake Benson to the Neuse, so they can reduce the amount of water they have to release out of Raleigh's aquifiers? Crazy.

I'd say come use my driveway down here in beautiful Panther Branch (outside Garner - on a well), but I'd charge $10

Plus, it would take me $10 in gas to get there...

Just move your asses to FL... can't remember a no wash drought in a LONG *** time.

What I don't understand though is how can the coin operated places still run while under a drought? Is there no law against them as well? Water is water right?

GA is pretty bad too, I live by one of the main lake resevoirs and it's dry as hell. Everybodies dock is beached. Lucky I don't own a boat.

They allow certain businesses like carwashes, pressure washing, landscaping to continue to use water despite the ban because it is their livelyhood. However, I've heard talk of some towns of shutting these down too because it's getting so bad.

Fuggin' rain already!!

We had water restrictions down here abouth two months ago. We were still able to wash our cars and water our lawns; but it was only twice a week between the hours of 5-7 am and 6-8 pm (or something like that). Also the day we were allowed was determined by your house address, if it ended with an odd number you got a certain day and if it was even you had a different day.

I think car washes are excluded because they are a place of business. The local golf courses here also were placed under restrictions of use. The city had helicopters flying around making sure golf courses and citizens were not watering their lawns or washing cars.

Here in north GA, it's a warning, then $1000 fine.

I hardly ever wash my car, but it was getting bad even by my standards. So last month when it finally rained, I put buckets under the downspouts and washed the car with rainwater. You get really wet doing it that way, but it beats a $1000 fine.

Damn north GA... get close to South Carolina. I'm gonna have to ask my friends if they have been restricted yet.
