I say don't waste time with the Cams in the auto setup......Save your money for MANUAL swap parts and do everything together.
Save time and money by not wasting time or money modding an auto.
You probably wouldnt even feel the difference with Cams on an auto. Considering the Auto makes about 120whp, another 10whp through a slushbox isn't going to change anything. Thats assuming you make 10whp form C2 cams!
Maybe even build a VTEC head to use for an H23 VTEC combo......
Its all going to depend on how much money you want to spend....

well actually i had my car dynoed with a CAI on my semi auto tranny and i put down 146 whpp....and i think that the cams will be fine with the auto for now i mean it can't hurt because im eventually going to change from the "slush box"

Like I'm trying to tell ya convert to manual first. That will be the best mod you can do, auto-trannies drastically increase drivetrain loss. The vast majority of STOCK manual H22's will put down over 160whp. This therefore is the best mod you can do right now for the money. Please believe me. Also I'm pretty sure crowers 2's are pretty aggressive. Sure you might see some gains but the more aggresive the cam the more work it's going to want done to fully shine, like bumping up the compression, or doing some p&p work etc. Really you can't just keep slapping stuff in there and hoping to see appropriate gains, rather you should plan out your whole built from the start. Take it from me the BEST mod you can do to that car right now is manual conversion.

i understand about having the stick as the bets mod...buttt would it matter if i did cams and some high compression in the meantime and then do the swap when i get my tax retrurn in may....like all that would change is i would put more of that power to the wheels with the swap right ...it really cant hurt to do what i need in terms of power now and do swap later eventually it will all even out

Sure those would be good mods, as an engine is an engine is an engine and will react the same regardless of the tranny. Again those auto trannies are NOTORIOIUS for failing, and I'm telling you regardless of your 5K rebuild you better have money for that incase it goes. Why don't you just take the money your going to dump into cams, pistions (or however you plan on bumping up the compression) and valvetrain as you will need that as well and take that money and just put it into the tranny conversion. I hope you do understand that even if you do get cams, valvetrain, increase compression you HAVE to have that tuned which will cost hundreds more. Another negative with the auto is your tuning options are severely limited with it. With all the money in supporting mods you would need just to get the cams functioniong properly (again, you should increase compression, valvetrain, tuning etc.) you could just get the manual swap. Trust me you will be happy with that instead.

sorry, I just always assume H23 Auto......~140whp is PAR for 5th gen SS H22's.
Now that I know we're talking H22.....Forget about Crowers and go with Skunk2 Stage1/Pro1.
When it comes to the trannys, just don't get lured into a US F series trans.
Options for you are:
US or JDM H22/H23 trans
JDM F20B trans

no cams, but i recently did a manual swap and it was the best decision ive ever made. trust me youll notice more of a power increase will a 5 spd than you will with cams.......especially ones that aggresssive on stock compression.

I can agree that the manual swap would be time and money well spent, but I have to admit that nobody has put an ounce of effort into the auto transmission. I would like to see some different calibrations for the tranny and a torque converter. That would have to close the gap to the 5 speed cars.

However, back to the question.... I have Crower stage 2 cams in my SS auto. The cams I have have the modified idle lobes. When I put them in I noticed a small gain, but when I advanced them both two degrees, the car really woke up. The best improvement from advancing the cams was in the low speed driveability. As long as I keep the revs over 3k, the driveability is greatly improved.

As for the valve train, as long as you are using the auto tranny, you don't need to go overkill. The stock intake springs are fine for the stage 2 cams. I just bought a new set of intake springs, and put them in the exhaust side. This is fine for the auto tranny because you have very little potential for over rev. A 5 speed car will be at more risk. I decided to go this route because I did not like the cement mixer springs that the aftermarket companies sell. I read a lot of complaints about cam followers getting wiped out afer 10k miles on some "optimized" valve train kit. I have 40k miles on my setup, and it's all good. I drive it daily.

Actually, the best mod I did to my SS auto Prelude was to get an LS1 powered Firebird. With that in the driveway, I can see the Prelude for what it is, and I enjoy it much more now.

How would you even use the powerband with a SS? A stock rev limiter would have haulted the powerband on my s2s1 setup.
Crowers!

Yah, one of my Chicagoland Prelude Club members would surely do that for you. why don't you come do it yourself? Fear and common sense prevent you.
