Default I have been thinking about getting a 240SX

Well I have had my car for a 4 year now. It went from totally stock to a pretty B18B turbo hybird. But my good friend wants to sell is 92 240SX SE to get an Integra and I have been thinking or gettting it from him and doing the J=spec turbo conversion on it. I have been tring to get my car into the 13's...12's.....hell as fast as I can. But all I have gotten out of it is a 14.0 @ 105. I realy like my car and I don't know how I can part with it but the 240 setup would be soo badass. I mean, come on you get a factory turbo engine that can suport close to 400 HP without dealing with rods + pistions and the car is RWD!! I guess I am looking for you guys to convince me to keep my car. I know if anyone could you guys could!!

Yes But I don't know if you know what my car has done to it but to just get rid out of it would be very hard.....I guess it's cause I did everything myself.
Here is what I have now:
Fiber Images CF SIR hood
APC projection headlights
CRX Dash
89 Civic Si 292,600 miles on it
95 B18B
Zdyne Gold SECU 450 CC injectors
Z10 Front crossmember
T3/T04E turbo 54 Trim compressor
Drag FMIC
Revhard manifold
Tial Wastegate
Blitz Street spec EBC
Kosi K1 racing wheels
KYB Shocks
11" Brake upgrade
Teg MC/Booster
Skunk Coilovers
And 100's of hours of labor of course

So it's kinda hard to just let if go I guess. The only thing that would work is if I could buy it from him at the end of the summer but I don't know if he can wait that long.

Rear wheel drive!!! My dad has a '91 and it is fun. I just put on an Eibach Sportkit and KYB AGX shocks, plus poly bushings. The car is a lot of fun. It definately needs power- I'd do the SR20 swap and get yourself the 6 speed. Build the engine and put a good sized turbo on there for 400+hp and you are all set. And disconnect that HICAS, it is like the hand of God helping you out when you least expect it. I like the way the 94+(?) look better, but the earlier ones are too bad once you lower them and put on some decent wheels.

I am new to this Nissan stuff but from what I have seen so far I will probably go with the Red Top engine (the Six speed tranny and engine are rare and exspensive). I am not sure what the HICAS is but I would like to know what kinda engine managment is good to use with these cars. I would also like to upgrade the stock turbo to a T3/T4 or T3/I-60 turbo. I have done a few turbo swaps and know whats involved. As far as down pipe and charge pipe I can take care of all that stuff. I beleave You can get a manifold with a T3 flange or I can make an adaptor to make a T3 fit. Anyways is there a good site with alot of 240 swap info?

i too have been looking into this but the thing is its different. likegoing into uncharted territory.. kind of scary, but hey theres always the internet. I like RWD but in the snow here i think i would be hurt badly.. i say go for it cuz im looking to get one thats NOT a hatch and put an sr20det and get rid of the t25 for a bigger turbo. also an FMIC instead..

in a recent sport compact car, they did the five speed SR20DET swap as well as the S14 (S13? it was a 90 or 91)bodywork. it came out really nice, the only concern is downtime. you have to have the harness that came with the silvia, and have it modified and extended properly to locate the ECU and all the sensors in the right spots. i would love to do it one day, but you better believe i will be doing it in a SHOP with a LIFT. the first rear wheel drive clutch job i ever did was on a friend's 240, a PAIN. worth the experience. if you have a backup car to drive around for a few months, and have all your financial matters settled, i would say go for it, and document the whole project. what you learn will teach a lot to others.

as for your hatch, the best you have ever ran on a B18 turbo was a 14 flat?! get that thing on the dyno, then on some axles and a tire!

freaky thread... it mirrors exactly whats going on in my head right now.

i've had my 91 CRX Si since '98, it too went from bone stock to a high revving hybrid over the years. lately i've gotten bored of FF understeer, and am looking for a nice FR platform.

S14 is my choice, they're way underpowered but with the current crackdown on "street racing" (2 year ON THE SPOT license suspension if caught) im not all that worried about speed... i'd rather have something nice looking, comfy, reliable, not to mention RWD

ahhh what to do, what to do...

I have been looking at Heavy Pedal Performance (AND IT"S NOT IN CA!!!) and they have a really good site that gives some really good info on it. Also just so you all know I work at a garage and we have a lift. One of the things we do is automotive wiring so I think I got that covered.
I have also done a clutch job in my friends 240 (the one I want to buy)
It's would be really cool to have a setup that I can make alot of power without doing internal engine work.
Now on thing that has been bothering me is going to RWD. I have seen to many people wreck there cars because of the RWD oversteer. I have driven trucks and have had fun kicking the backend out but Never drove a really high powerd RWD.
I know Adam had a turbo B16 CRX and just went to a 240 with the same intentions as me.

ok looks like i should jump in here.... sr20det is definately a good way to go... but just like any other jdm motor replacement and performance parts are much harder to find for a sr20det then for a honda motor. just keep that in mind. although the market for sr parts is going through the roof. i should know. if your looking for a 240 to throw a sr in might as well get one cheap w/ a blown motor. and keep your honda for a daily driver. just think you could slap your sr in bone stock pretty much and crank the boost up to 15 or even 18 psi (although at 18psi your turbo will prolly only last a year). i love my 240.... and i miss driving it... the red one i have now was a replacement for a black one that you can see on my site... since i bought it 2 years ago i've put all of 5 miles on the car before ripping my ka24 out and slapping my redtop sr in... check out
http://www.heavythrottle.com
i got my motor from them. and tell jeff and yury that jim from albany sent you. there great guys and the'll hook you up phat! they will make sure you get everything you need like uncut harness, ignitor, and a good cas. any more questions feel free to im me.

btw getting power out of these motors is extreamly easy... my total swap has cost me a little over 7,000$ and estimates of around 280hp at the wheels. if you want to know how i'm going about obtaining this see my website.

Just think if something breaks on the sr20 motor, can you go to your local auto parts store and tell them you need parts for a japan spec motor?
I dont know much about nissans, maybe some engine parts are transferable?

Get the 240sx. You will be happy with the times you will run after the swap.

There are two very good ways to go if you want a turbo 240. You can swap in the Sr20DET, or you can turbo the KA24DE, which is what I would probably do. Check out http://www.freshalloy.com, they have pages and pages of arguments over this...

Sell everything but the civic and your mom on ebay. Buy the 240, but don't sell your current car.

Your car sounds like it has a lot of potential. Low 13's is probably just around the corner. You'll miss it after it's gone.

Damn, I dont know what to say. Joel is the one who got me into turbos with his hatch, I would be pretty bummed if you sold her. Though the Nissan is a pretty bad *** project car. Have you talked to Adam about it? Im sure he can give you some ideas.

Oh yeah if you get the Nissan remember I let you drive my Civic! You Owe me!

I would think 12's easly possable with my car....it's got a nice size turbo (t3 .68 ar, T04E 54 trim)
I also have full engine management, Z10 traction bars (really nice) And a light car. The engine should be able to run 10-12 psi the way it is. I just want to get better gauges and put it on a Dyno. I don't plan on getting the 240 till the end of the summer. In the mean time I will get my car into the low 13's and I may keep it if I can afford it. But thats pretty unlikely.
