Default New Supersticky Tires Coming from Kumho and Toyo

Thanks to a link in another forum here, I read on another board that both Kumho and Toyo are planning to introduce new tires next year, and showed them at the SEMA show. These appear to be "dual purpose" tires designed to be used for both street and track, similar to the Falken Azenis RT-615 and Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R.

Kumho Ecsta XS:

Toyo Proxes R1-R:

BTW, it appears that Dunlop is getting into this market also, with its new Direzza Sport Z1, now available in sizes including 195/55-15 for Integras and '97-00 Civics, and 205/50-16 for many Preludes. It's also pretty reasonable in price, a lot closer in price to the Azenis RT-615 than the RE-01R.

More choices are always a good thing.

Ditto.

I wish Toyo would make the RA-1 in 205/45/16.

Both tires look nice, The Toyos don't look like they'll have enough contact patch compared to the other comparative brands/tires., but we'll see.

I want to try out Bridgestone RE050 which is OEM on new CTR but I am tired to find OEM size tires for my JDM 16's with so limited choice of 215-45-16. What is the compatiable in width & dia. popular size available?

If they are anything like the RA1's, just shave em to 4/32 and call it a day.

Tire size and prize will definitely make or break it. I wonder if they will have a stepped release like the 615s did?

I always loved the Toyo T1-R, back when they were the T1-S's. I thought they were overall an awesome tire but always did crappy on reviews. Maybe this time around will be differenet.

Yep. When speaking of RA1's at the track, shave em to 4/32 and get right to the meat of the tire. Less squirm that way.

isn't the toyo R1R old in other country? i read some Japaneses magazine couple yrs ago and they had this tires by that time already. and the toyo is a street tire, nothing compare to like RA1.

by the way the kumho looks really nice. it will be a cheaper choice other than the 615

we've had the T1-R's for years

they're **** on a 15" tyre. absolutely awful. when you corner you can feel the sidewalls flexing and the car squirms all over

they're a lot better for much larger diameter tyres with smaller sidewalls and softer suspension, but i'd never use them for my R

incidentally, we need some decent tyres like these over here. at the moment it seems all we can choose from are Toyo R888's and Advan A-048R's at about £110 a corner
