Tach bounces...
Okay, I have hooked up two tachs in my car, and both bounce crazy. I have a guage cluster with no tach so.. They work good up to like 4000 RPM, then it just starts bounciing around and I dont have any idea where I am at. This has happened with two tachs, any ideas? I have been told that it could have something to do with ignition timing but.. I rewired it two times to make sure everything was good and it is... Any help would be good..
i am 99% sure your igniter is bad. change that out and it should cure the problem.
also, you can use an igniter from ANY model honda. i used one from a d16a6 in my 88 teg dist.

Would it run good though if the ignitor is bad? The car runs good... Just the tach is bouncing...

Can it be a loose connection or something?
on me.
Its the silver thing in the distributor right? Anyway, I will mess with it tomorrow.

The coil will be either brown or gray. My d16a6's is brown, ZC's is gray/silver.
The tach wire is blue off of the igniter. You'll see both of them easily once you have the cap off.

Yea it may be a loose wire, because we took the ignitor out of the distributor and had autozone test it when we thought it was bad. It was good though.. So I will check connections tomorrow..
All that stuff is set right. I am gonna check first thing in the morning about the ignitor, make sure all the wires are connected to it.
One more question, what kinda symptons do you normally have when your ignitor is going out incase it is? I have noticed for a while, that when the car revs higher it kinda bogs a little, and its been backfiring a lot lately, not just when i let off of the gas, but like at different times. Could that have something to do wtih my ignitor? Anyway, just something i forgot and got out of bed for..
