Default Thinking about getting a RSX...

To tell you a little story, I mainly like the 2002-2004 models. I will be visiting a few dealerships this weekend to get a price quote for my 1995 Honda Accord 2dr LX and trade it in, but I won't do it right away. I don't know if this year is a good year to buy a RSX or whether I should just save up more money from working this holiday season and wait until 2008 of next year to buy one instead (I dont know what I will be exactly paying for because my folks are willing to pay off the car). I WAS thinking of getting an Acura TSX (my folks want to stay semi-luxurious for some reason because we also own a Toyota Highlander SUV), but I figured that it'd probably be best if I just got a 4 door family car around 26-28 years old (only 19 now). I dont even have much people riding with me daily anyway... just a friend or two but thats it.

But I have lots of questions to ask before getting a RSX.

1) Whats the difference between the base model and Type S? I'm not looking to race or anything, just a daily driving. But who knows, I might modify it.

2) Stick or auto? I have only been driving automatic my whole life, my a few friends taught me how to drive stick and I got the hang of it real quick. Looking to get the best out of mpg as well out of the RSX.

3) Should I expect to pay a lot for insurance if I have a clean driving record, a few parking tickets, no speeding tickets at all, and have had my license for over a year and a half now? I have AAA insurance. Trust me, I stop at ALL stop signs and have NEVER been pulled over from a police officer before, so I'm a safe driver.. even though my friends complain that I drive too slow, why did I make a full stop at a stop sign, was it necessary for me to turn my head EVERY TIME I change lanes or whatever, etc.

4) How can I haggle the price for RSX's at Acura dealerships? I don't know if its the same with the ones I deal with locally on Craigslist because dealers keep their car clean except the fact I can tell them whether or not these peeps want to make a sale because no one will buy it anytime soon (I work as sales so I know their methods).

5) Would it be better to keep the RSX maintenance at the dealership or at my local mechanic shop (I'm a valued customer but they kind of did a crappy job to my accord for oil changes)? Basically excellent service quality/high price VS bad-ok quality/cheap prices.

6) How much mileage is TOO much for the RSX? Can they go up to 200,000 miles? I see a lot of advertisements on craigslist for a RSX that has 36K miles worth $16-$19k. Another RSX that has 70K miles worth $12K. I could get the 2005+ one because it has lower mileage, but I hear insurance cost on those years and up increase the price. I don't drive much as well. Believe it or not, I bought my 95 Honda Accord last December 2006 at 73K miles. It's been almost a year now and its now at... *checks mileage*... 80,xxx miles.

1) the base rsx(5spd) has the same engine as the ep3, 160bhp at the crank. the rsx-s(6 psd) has 200bhp at the crank.

2)standard is more fun imo, its your choice thou.

3)get some quotes. it shouldnt be that much but you are under 21 and you wud be driving a sports car, some insurance companies look at that.

4)if u know there tricks and you work in sales you should be fine, just do the whole i am not really interested bit and work with it, see what the do, that what i did and it lowered my price by a grand.

5)if it requires big maintence take it to the dealer or a mechanic you trust. for basic stuff...i.e oil changes, tire rotation DIY

6)i am a firm supporter of hondas they are the only car i have ever owned and i have seen them in very high mileage b4, but every car is different, they can have problems just like any other car. if your looking to buy one thou i wud keep it under 50k if possible, less mileage when you buy it the better, not as much wear on it and depending on the driver b4.

anyways good luckk in your hunt for either the base or the type-s, its a fun car, but if you really want a rsx, get the type-s cuz the base is worthless.

imo i wud skip the rsx-s and just get the TSX, i wud have gotten that over my ep3 but i cudnt afford the payments.
